Our midfield was both overrun and bullied in my opinion mate. Robson won everything in the middle of the park. Every 50/50 he come out on top. I counted a few times where he simply brushed Johansen aside, that is why the "bullied" opinion has been formed

Loved his attitude when Hearts broke 2 on 1 mins before the record was set, he burst a gut tracking back and helped create history.

The question for me is what is the bhoys best position? was he bought to play as an attacking midfielder and if not is Lennon planning on buying one in the summer?

It's a strange one. I assumed he was bought as somewhat of an attacking midfielder but he looks to be a "deep lying playmaker" - along the lines of Xavi/Pirlo/Alonso.

    He's a quarterback à la Pirlo, I think.

I think he's just a centre mid, he likes to get the ball deep but also burst forward, theres been a few times he's been highest man up the pitch, receiving the ball or pressing it. He goes where he is needed.

Think we have too many players like that with Kayal, Johansen and Brown? ILTC mentioned something about the positioning of our central midfielders in a thread about Broony the other day there.

Possibly, thing is Broony is versatile enough to play any role and Kayal can also do so. We don't really know what Johansen can bring yet but it looks like Biton will also be first choice.

We've not really got any 'specialist' midfielders just now. Just a lot of very diverse ones.

Anyone know if he is actually out tonight? What is it with our new signings and getting injured? Happened to Boerrigter, Van Dijk and Mouyokolo this season and now it's happened to Johansen.

Theyre not used to the diet of battered cheese burgers and lager. Seriously though, its very concerning, when we send players out on loan they are out of shape and when players come here they seem to pick up a lot of niggly injuries that some don't recover from properly.

Refreshing to have him in the team, first time in a long time we've had a midfielder that receives the ball, looks up for the run of a striker and passes it to the them. Full team moves faster with him in it.

Looks perfect for European football. Strong and brave enough to play our physical game and bully teams like Barca, but also technically adept. I think his best attribute is he looks to distribute the ball quickly and has quite a lot of pace himself - vital for us countering away in Europe.

Not sure what our best midfield should be. Brown has to be a stick because he's the only leader we've got, and has played very well for the best part of 3 years now.

Johansen and Biton - don't think we can play them together but i've liked the look of them both so it's a tricky one.

I think for all parties concerned, it was the right time for Joe Ledley to leave, cause this lad looks the real deal

In European Football not only could you play the three midfielders of Brown Biton and Johanson , it would be vital to play them along with Mulgrew as a protector of the defence . With that set up , we will be able to stop opposing European teams running through us and passing through us.

I actually like that idea (with commons and a No 9 up front); but it would leave us relying on our fullbacks for any width. I think we're blessed with outstanding fullbacks (Izzy and Lustig) who could pull it off, though.

    Zaluska
    Lustig Ambrose Van Dijk Izzy
    mulgrew
    Broony Johansen Biton
    Commons
    Striker

Very narrow that midfield. Good though Matthews and Fisher are, I don't think we could play that way without Lustig and Izzy. I'd be pretty happy with that team for our CL campaign, though.

I'd only change the positions of Johansen and Biton there.
