McGregor has been easily the better player since around November 2015.

Watch out you'll get some bright spark like White Buffalo coming on reminding us that Johansen was Player of the Year :smiley-laughing002:

All I can say to that is it must have been a * year.:56:

I like McGregor a lot but I agree that Johansen is a far better footballer.

Form and ability are 2 seperate things. One is a key player for Norway, the other can't get into a Scotland side.

I still don't understand this arguement. McGregor has performed quite consistently better tha Johansen over the past 6 months or so. That's pretty much undeniable. How long does he need to play better than Johansen before he's declared a better player?

    They didn't, what's your point?

I actually think he's performed better for Celtic far longer than 6 months but that doesn't take away from my point.

Johansen is a better footballer than McGregor.

Well, I'll change the question a bit, how long of playing badly does his bad form just become a representation of his ability as a footballer?

There is only so long he can play * for before people no longer accept it as bad form.

If he plays * for Celtic from now until he leaves it will be a reflection of form not ability.

We know what he's capable of, his issue just now is confidence related. Something which will never be remedied whilst the Parkhead crowd are constantly on his back.

There are plenty examples of players being a certain fit for a Club and not others at certain times. It isn't a reflection on their ability as a player.

A major cull is needed in midfield should get rid of johansen and mcgregor not much point arguing who's better when neither is good enough .johansen is an odd one was brutal last year brilliant the year before

    Not having it.

In his time here, Johansen has been average/pish other than a 3 month spell in early 2015.

    Bullshit.

Self explanatory, one is a key player for their national side the other cant get a sniff at a worse side.

    What does that intimate?

    Well that's just blatant nonsense.

You don't win POTY based on 3 months

He was very good at his best for us, particularly in a 4month spell or so. But the longer he plays the way he does, the less confident I am that it wasn't just a purple patch in form. I hope we see that player again but I don't trust we will. He's a frustrating player at the minute. The most erratic passer of the ball we have in the midfield and very petulant at times. It's been disappointing.

Whether he is a better player or not, I'm sure you'll agree he doesn't deserve to be anywhere near our starting XI

    It isn't.

In the first few of months of the season Johansen was playing a deeper role in midfield and plenty of people on here wanted him dropped because he wasn't playing well at all. He eventually got moved into a more advanced role behind the striker and had a fantastic run of form from January to around March/April where he scored about half a dozen goals. Then his form dipped again for the last few matches.

He won POTY but, again, plenty of people didn't think he deserved it. And to be fair he probably didn't. Van Dijk was immense, Denayer was a class act, Gordon had a fine season and Brown had a good season.
