Shows that he is firmly in the picture though, unlike some have suggested.

Or, more likely, supporters are too blinded by shared nationality and history and assume that personal feelings are the reason for a player's place. He had a rough year but he's a good player.

He'll be a key player for us under Rodgers I think.

I have no doubt he can be, last season needs to be forgotten about and start afresh with Johansen. Was just one of those years - if next years the same then punt him. His first 18 month here suggest last season was a blip.

Playing well to put himself in the shop window ?

I feel he wants to leave the club
and he should be allowed to go, as we have a surplus of midfielders,
and Johansen has just endured his worse year at the club.
I feel his motivation has left him and he was a favorite of the last manager.
I can't see Rodgers standing in his way if a good offer comes in for him.

Or playing to impress the new manager.

I feel he wants to stay at the club and should be given a chance like everyone else under the new management. The whole team endured a terrible season at the club.
I feel his motivation was brought down along with the rest of the team during a lackluster season from all.
I can see Rodgers wanting to evaluate all the key members of the squad, specially ones who have won player of the season awards

I think its wrong to say the whole team endured a terrible season at the club.
Johansen was played all the time regardless of form by Ronny, it wasn't fair to the other players in the queue, especially Scott Allan I feel who waited patiently for a chance, but alas Ronny snubbed him too.

Johansen's body language has not been good for a long time on the park, he has the look of a player who dozen't feel wanted, and indeed I think he was booed by a section of the Celtic support once or twice too, so the feeling is mutual.

Meanwhile, Stefan Johansen will have showdown talks with Rodgers about his Celtic future when he returns to pre-season training.

The Norwegian, who has a year left on his deal, has been in contact with his new manager and was impressed with what he had to say.

He said: “The manager gave me a positive impression. He was incredibly nice.

“I’ve spoken to the club about a new contract but we didn’t get anywhere. We’ll talk about it again with the manager when I get back from holiday.”
