One year on his deal and the talk in January was a new deal might not be forthcoming. There was also talk at that time of Villa sniffing around for about £5m.

I'd be tempted to cash in on him this Summer. We already have Bitton, Brown, McGregor, Armstrong and Allen looking to play in that position. Plus we have Ajer joining, and Henderson returning from his loan spell.

Yeah I think he'll be gone in the summer.

We need to trim the midfield and players like Armstrong and Henderson need regular game time in the centre of the pitch. Wouldn't be surprised to see Bitton leaving as well.

Get rid like a lot of others in our squad.

Free up funds so that Brendan can bring in his own type of players

I think Brendan would love Johansen to be honest, but can see him wanting to move on.

He'll have to figure out how to get the best out of this midfield, which could be tough.

Bitton and Brown don't look the most mobile at the minute, so you'd expect one of them to sit in front of the midfield.
Armstrong, McGregor and Johansen look more able to get forward and back - but they all need to improve areas of their game.
Ajer is a bit of an unknown quantity, and we'll need to see what shape Henderson is in after his spell with Hibs.
Then you've got guys like Allan, Commons and Rogic who can all create and/or score goals, but can't really play in a box to box role.

Judging by the interview thing with rodgers at Liverpool(the part 2 24min video) I think he will have the midfield sussed already.
He likes the one sitting and then two pushing on. Can see that being brown with mcgregor and Johansen in front.

Broony should just sit in front of the back four. Hes good at it, and he enjoys doing it, duno why hes never been played more as a fully fledged DM. Hes always suited it.

    Which video is this?

He used a 2-1 a lot at Swansea with Sigurdsson, but played a 1-2 more at Liverpool. He'll have to figure out what he wants here pretty quickly.

That box to box role you mention is crucial when it comes to Johansen. He has an energy about him that we need. If Brendan can coach the mistimed tackles out of him then we'd have some player.

On the other hand if there is only a year left on his contract it might be best to cash out. All the money we raise from the midfield clearout should go towards signing a qualigy DM and LW I think.

Going to be very interesting seeing which players Brendan thinks he can get the best out of especially in midfield.

That's the dilemma. I think someone like Rodgers could take his game on, but he could also improve Armstrong and McGregor, even Henderson. Might be better off cashing in on Johansen and focusing on those guys.

    Cheers :50:

  14. He has a great engine and a lot of ability but can blow hot and cold. I'd be interested to see what Brendan could do with him, but if the right offer comes in might be time to go.

    Great video :50:
Love watching * like this. Could watch it all day.

  16. Would seriously consider punting him for a decent fee. If we could get 4-5 million for him I think he will be let go.

One of the guys I can't wait to see under Rodgers, he is a player who will flourish next season IMO.

  18. I've never liked him he played okay when he won player of the year but not once did I think "oh he's a good player" he's average at best & this season his performances were woeful when he played deeper in the CM role he offered nothing he cant control the game or grab the game by the scruff of the neck & his passing his pretty poor how many times can a player give the ball away or make a stupid foul & his performances in europe where pathetic I really hope he is first out the door & he comes across as a *.

He played OK in his POTY season :56:

He was fantastic and if he replicates that form next season he is one of the first names on the team sheet. Genuine class midfielder at his best.
