What is more valuable to us Johanson or 5m?

5m might never be spent and if it is it will be on quantity over quality. Deilas signings have been * so far so keeping him is more valuable to us.

I know what you mean mate..we do have an abundance of midfielders..

However I think people are taking for granted his phenomenal work rate, which is maybe not as evident when he plays the DM role. He is relentless and must be a nightmare to play against.

I was reading a preview for the season in 4-4-2 magazine and pretty much every club's fans said he was the player they feared/respected the most.

Don't get me wrong his form has been poor but he has improved recently.

Rogic has been a sensation so far but is untested at European level as is Allan.

We lack depth and experience at DM so selling Johansen and replacing him with another project, seems ill conceived to me.

We all know what he can do and I'd feel happier with him in the squad going into the CL qualifying campaign.

£5m is not a gamble worth taking.

For what it's worth, I think he'd actually do alright in the Championship if he put the work in. That league is often long balls from back to front and the midfielders need a lot of energy.

Kayal has been a big hit down there and guys like George Boyd and Bradley Johnson shine in the league after struggling in the Premiership because of their ability to get from box to box.

I have been majorly impressed with his instant ability to split a defense but not with a while lot else to be fair. At times it looks like he is unaware of incoming challenges and also I have some doubts about his mentality i.e. will he go out and take his spot no matter what. So with that in mind I accept he might not make it for us. Until he is established, proven, and doing it in Europe he can not be considered a good signing only a signing with potential to be good. There is a difference but I think you already know that.

Also it is funny as I am often hounded for being negative. I give positive feedback on Allan and deliberately ignore (until now) his limitations and I am also hounded. Which is it or will I just say * all or what people want to hear?

    Ok here go's:

    Deila is the man
Rogic completely deserves to play there in front of Commons
    Stokes rar rar rar :47:
    etc

interview with him in this weeks Celtic view.

Stefan Johansen has played 100 games for the Scottish champions in his two-year spell at the club but despite feeling like part of the woodwork, the Norwegian midfielder insists he’s still learning every day.
Johansen was signed from Ronny Deila’s Stromsgodset in January 2014 after making a name for himself in their title-winning Tippeligaen season the year before and was instantly thrown into the Celtic first-team by Neil Lennon just days after joining the club.
The then 23-year-old’s inclusion in the matchday squad for the trip to Easter Road on January 26, and his subsequent cameo in the 87th minute of the 4-0 victory that day, was an indication of the club’s faith in their latest acquisition, but for Johansen it felt like being thrown in at the deep end.
However, that sink-or-swim experience has helped mould the midfielder into the player he is today, which is the reigning Player of the Year and a vital component in the Celtic midfield. And in an exclusive interview with this week’s Celtic View, Johansen said he is still developing at the champions as he continues to improve under Ronny Deila.
“When I came here I knew it was a huge step-up for me with the expectation,” the Norwegian internationalist said. “I’ve learned a lot about how to deal with pressure. Celtic makes you more grown-up as a football player.
“You need to deal with pressure and you need to know that winning is in the walls here. You have to win trophies, nothing else is accepted.
“In Norway playing for Stromsgodset, if you look at the economic side of it we shouldn’t have even been close to competing with teams like Rosenborg or Molde, so it was okay. But here, Celtic is about winning and you just need to learn that nothing else is acceptable.
“That gives you that winning mentality and you learn a lot of things about how that works. Playing big games in front of a big crowd is something you need to handle but I’m very happy I came to Celtic. It’s a great club to be at.
“A lot of players have heard about Celtic as a football club and it’s a great place to play. I think it’s fantastic here and it’s just a great club to be at.”
It was clear from the outset that Johansen would become an important player for the Celts. His vision, drive and tenacity in the tackle were all on show in the second-half of the 2013/14 season and he helped push the Hoops on to a winning end to the campaign, despite the Bhoys already being well ahead in the league race when he joined.
Since then the midfielder has never looked back. He secured his second league title in a row with Ronny Deila as boss last season and has helped the Celts climb to the top of the table this year as they chase their fifth successive Scottish Premiership title.
He has played in 25 European fixtures for the Bhoys, scoring in five of them, and also has a League Cup winner’s medal to his name following last season’s double. And he was named Scotland’s Player of the Year last season.
With all that already under his belt at the Hoops, Johansen could be forgiven for struggling to pick out his top moments but he explained to the Celtic View that he has no problem with that at all.
“I have a lot,” he admitted. “But it’s always about winning trophies – that’s what you play football for. You can say what you want but for me it’s about winning trophies. I’ve won two Premiership trophies and one League Cup but you always remember the road to the trophies as well.”

I think he is a good player and worth more than 5 million but we have shitloads of young talent in that position (right now I guess that Henderson will be certainly better than him in two seasons) plus all the young and cheap players we are being linked to that will never have a chance if we keep playing him.

If we sold him for good money I think we solve a lot of problems at once. He defintely has talent but is no longer interested in playing here. He visibly doesn't give a * anymore. I doubt we ever will see that POTY from last year again.

Aston Villa get their guy, we get the money, Johansen gets to play in the Premier League, Henderson, Christie, Allan and potentially Ajer and the croatian guy are more likely to have a chance to show their football and not have their progress hampered for the lack of playing time. I would try to ask for 7-8 million but would honestly sell for 6, 6.5.

I don't want to lose him, but at the same time ... we're overloaded as eff in that CAM position.

I really liked him when he first arrived but I feel he hasn't really kicked on too much and hasn't really established himself as irreplaceable.

He's a decent enough player but I'm pretty indifferent to whether he goes as I feel there are players that aren't far off him coming through (Mcgregor, Allen, Armstrong, Henderson). I think £5-7m would be a pretty fair price in my eyes.

Villa look certainties for the drop this season. Can't see that being ideal for Johansen.

Someone on KDS who is always reliable (mentioned him before) said that Johansen wanted to leave in the summer last year.

    * him.

I think some people are completely unrealistic about a player's value. Fact is he has been bang average at best for the majority of his time here and we can double our money on him.

Likelihood is that he'll not sign a new contract in the summer as he probably sees playing in the championship as a more attractive option than playing the odd Europa cup match which he could have done staying in Norway.

    Punt him.

His value must be plummeting drastically. There won't be £5m offers in the summer.

Honestly I couldn't care less if he stays or goes. He's a good player, but we already have more than enough midfielders. If he doesn't want to renew his contract, then I would sell him. I doubt he would join Villa because of the relegation and stuff, but I can see Villa returning to PL immediately.
