Money talks in football. We can't offer the sort of wages that even the smaller EPL clubs can, so when our players are doing well it's natural that they'll be linked with bigger money moves, particularly when they're doing well in the Champions League. Not sure how much of it I buy into though, a lot of people seem to have resigned themselves to the fact that we'll be losing Hooper, Vic and Forster come summer at the latest. I'm not sure about this, I think we'll be very reluctant to let them go, particularly if we progress further in the Champions League, and if they do go it'll only be after we've got a replacement lined up.

We thought Di Canio, Cadete and Hooijdonk loved the club. Think Kayal would leave, think Sammy would stay.

It does get a bit tedious seeing newspaper articles on here that are linking our players with moves to other clubs. I reckon most of the articles that go to print aren't based on any solid information at all, they're just stabs in the dark by a journalist who is clutching at thin air in a vain attempt to claim he broke an exclusive story.

There's nothing I can do about it though so I just try to ignore it as much as possible.

i dont realy think any of our players would knock back the wages on offer down south

that puts celtic in a position of either match the wages or let them go

i wonder what maloney, caldwell mccarthy and macarthur are on at wigan bet its more than they got here though, calldwell and maloney that is

I don't care. I can understand getting * at the likes of Wigan or Southampton or other small clubs taking our players, as that seems like a kick in the teeth, but the fact is even the worst Prem club are far richer than Celtic (and most Championship clubs as well) so they are all a step-up from us in some ways at least.

Very, very few players are truly loyal and tbh even the likes of Mulgrew, Forrest and Watt, born and bred tims and academy players, would probably move if one of the corrupt Russian teams gave them 200k a week or something mad like that. And I wouldn't really blame them if they did.

We just have to accept that these days. As long as we get good money for the players when they leave, and they do their best whilst at Celtic, then I can't complain.

If none of our players were linked with the EPL or indeed any bigger league were most likely to have a team of duds.

Comes with the territory. Best enjoy them whilst they are here and then wish them well when they go.

If you take football out it and treat it like any other job! If you do well up here you can transfer to a job for another firm in your chosen professional to get a big job for big money in London. Its the same with Footballers comming to Celtic allows them to play for a big club and use it for a stepping stone to securing bigger contracts and more money!

I don't have an issue if players like Wanyama want to play for a club like Manchester United and earn a lot more money, I still love the big scary * and will always follow his career with some affection. I also don't have a problem with newspapers reporting that some big club are interested in one of our players, if they have some evidence to back it up. I do, however, get annoyed when every single time one of our players plays well an article is published (often without the slightest evidence) linking them with an EPL club (often one considerably smaller than Celtic). The size of the club is not irrelevant, because I'd need to see some real evidence before I'd believe that one of our better players would leave us for certain smaller EPL sides.

Regarding Kayal: I do think he has some feeling for Celtic. Does that mean I think he'd knock back Barcelona or one of the Manchester clubs (for instance) if they came calling? No. Does that mean I don't think he'd want to move to Norwich for an extra £20,000 a week? Yes.

The thing that gets on my nerves are the English teams arrogance and ignorance. They continuously slate the SPL, call teams '*' etc - you'd almost think they all watched the SPL week in week out; they obviously don't. I mean that Norwich * saying Hooper is worth £2.5 million then calling the SPL *. How the * do you know it's '*'?! If you think Hooper is worth £2.5 million you obviously don't watch the SPL!

Ignorant and arrogant - the typical English football fan.

I am personally delighted that our squad is getting recognition and is valued by EPL. I not in the slightest bit concerned about any of our players leaving this summer.

Look at our recent history, there are only three major players in the last 10 years, that we would have all liked to see stay and see out their careers at celtic, but got sold due to circumstance.

    Petrov, Mcgeady, Boruc.

A lot of our star players over the years have played well, added to the clubs success and seen out their contracts and moved on. Good luck to them.

In some cases we have made some decent money to Reinvest back into the team.

Lawwell will ensure we get a fantastic bit of momey for any player of value that chooses to move on with their career.

I agree with you, except I'd change the word "fan" for "journalist". There are a lot of pretty sound English fans, some of whom have posted on this forum.

Imo we shouldn't be letting kayal go so easily. Wanyama will be off in the summer which would leave us with only brown and ledley out of the current squad who actually get any game time this year (i'm not counting youth players like mcgeough or twardzik cuz they haven't played much). As a club we should be striving to get to the level of benfica and porto where we sell our best players for massive amounts of money. In order to do that we can't be letting important players like kayal go for 5m. Ki for 6m was fine because he was a bench player who was falling further and further down the pecking order but for kayal we should at least be looking for 8m imo especially considering he just signed a contract extension last year.

This is how I see it.

We built an entire team for about £8m and they have beaten teams in the champions league who are worth ten times that. Of course we will get attention from richer clubs. It is part and parcel of modern football and if we are happy to sign guys from all over the world we should recognise they are far more likely to follow the money, than stay at celtic for their whole career.

Almost every club is a selling club nowadays and our model seems to be working better than mosts. The frustrating part it that we could end up losing players to go to lower level EPL clubs, instead of playing last 16 in Europe with us. But money talks and these guys are professionals at the end of the day. I will be more than happy if the next few players we bring in play regularly for 3 years, do well, and then get sold on for 500% profit. It is the only sensible way a club like our could be run.
