Celtic calm about Petrov future
Petrov opens Celtic talks
Celtic chief executive Peter Lawwell insists the club are prioritising new contract talks with Stilian Petrov.
"It's very early in the discussions," he told the Scottish Daily Mail. "We started them 20 months early and there is no need for panic, we've got time.
"We had one offer from Fulham in the summer, but that was rejected.
"We know clubs will be looking but, equally, we know what we've got to work with and we will do all we can to keep Stilian at Celtic."
The Bulgarian captain has been a big hit since he arrived in Glasgow as a teenager and has six goals to his name this season.
Reports have suggested that Blackburn and Newcastle could bid for 26-year-old and that Celtic are interested in Ajax midfielder Steven Pienaar as a replacement.
But manager Gordon Strachan is anxious to retain the services of Petrov.
"Stilian really wants to stay here and that is good," he said last month. "We really want him to stay."

I know Petrov has expressed his desire to play in The Premiership later in his career, I just hope he stays for a good while I bet he wants success in Europe same as wee Larsson * Willing he could get it at Celtic soon you never know !!

But we don't want to lose Petrov bhoys but Stilian did say one-day he would like to join the premiership+the league in Spain as well bhoys but if you think about it bhoys Newcastle want him but They Can't Give him CL football next season neither can Everton so if a premiership club came in they would have to be involved in the CL next season,Lets just say the bhoys won the league+Baca won the CL+there domestic league as well that would mean the team that won the SPL goes straight into the CL group-stages(GET IN THERE We've got to win the league now!)so I can't see Petrov Leaving next season he will want to put himself in the shop window while playing in the CL or mybe he might just become a Celt for life,Its the board i'am worried about bhoys can they pay him a respectable wage like 20,000-30,000 grand a week coz GS did say that he would love to build the Midfield round Petrov+Naka in the future with the younger bhoys in there as well Hope Stilian Petrov Stays I would say hes worth at least £6-10-million easy in todays market for players!

Give him the money we would offer Keane, gee him a 5 year deal, imo he's by far our best player, got to keep him or our team will fall apart a hink.

I'm beginning to think Naka and Maloney are our most vital players these days, Petrov also.
