Even with the reversed decision I still see unfairness and others affected.

There really is/was no solution to this without exams being sat.

With the passes now increasing and attainment gap massively shortening, the class of 2020 will ‘unfairly’ be viewed on when looking at their SQA cert in years to come over those that actually had to set exams for their marks.

    Agree with this.
Some of the downgrades didn’t seem unfair but backing down and basically just handing out whatever grade they wanted isn’t a solution either. It seems to have kept the kids happy but every single grade from this year will now be treated with scepticism by employers and universities.
In my view more could and should have been done to let the exams go ahead this year. Even if they just delayed them by a bit. Social distancing was the thing in exam halls long before any of us had ever heard of it.

High schools tend to be quite big buildings, was there no way of maybe hiring a few more folk that watch them, can’t mind what you call them lol, and just having say 10 in a class room with other classes spread through the school, good clean of the surfaces and then another exam later. Would take the same amount of time as normal exams and they was only usually 1 at a time if I remember.

I’m sure all these things were thought off and just couldn’t be done. Maybe the way it’s been done was the only option they had. Quite messy!

They had plenty of teachers. They manage 1st to 6th year with loads of different classes all with different teachers. Your telling me they couldnt split them up enough with a teacher in each class as exams went ahead? Took the easy option imo.

Yeah I think could’ve done that safely enough. Instead of bundling 100 kids into a sports hall, just 10 in 10 different classes spread out. But then again, a lot of parents might not of wanted their kids going in during the pandemic which is understandable. And when the grades came back a lot of folk might not be happy that they had missed a couple of months in the classroom before the exam. Very tricky situation and one that has never happened before.

Even just put on an offer of taking the exam as optional and explain things may be downgraded if chosen to go with prelims. Then nobody can be blamed. It was the lack of choice * it for them.

It wasn't that they couldn't (even in hindsight or not) just spread the exam halls out more, they kids lost 3 months of studies!
They were not remotely prepared for them.

The schools closed at the end of March, just before a planned 2 week Easter holiday. Exams start at the end of April/ start of May. More like 3 weeks lost than 3 months.

This is a cluster * and will roll onto next year and possibly beyond if they don't grab the * by the horns. I don't how Williamson is still in a job personally.

Should have used coursework and prelims together to get the results and grades.
