CELTIC supporters are being asked to get their votes in and make their nominations for the Mitre SPL Goal of the Decade.
The Clydesdale Bank Premier League is presently celebrating its 10th anniversary, with Celtic last week announced as the team of the decade, amassing the highest total of wins, points and goals scored in the 10 years since the league’s inception.
With that in mind, Celtic goalscorers should rank highly in the list of nominees, with supporters asked to email the league with their choices.
Henrik Larsson’s magnificent chip in the August 27, 2000 ‘Demolition Derby’ will obviously feature in the selection, although the great Swede could have some competition on the derby front, with Shunsuke Nakamura’s swerving 35-yarder at Celtic Park in April the most spectacular strike of last season.
The Japanese midfielder has scored his share of crucial goals since joining the club in 2005, with his title-clinching set piece at Rugby Park another memorable effort.
There are also a number of well-worked team goals to choose from and some may go for Scott McDonald’s against Aberdeen last season, which was teed-up by Aiden McGeady’s remarkable pirouette on the touchline.
The league are inviting nominations for goals scored by any club in the SPL, which will be whittled down to a shortlist of 10 which the public will then vote on. Only goals scored in the SPL from season 1998/99 to 2007/2008 will be valid for entry and no goals scored in domestic or European cup competitions will count.
All you have to do to have your say in the shortlist is email enquiries@scotprem.com with the following information:
- Name of goalscorer
- Opposition
- Match date or season of goal scored
- Entrant’s name
- Contact details
- Team you support
All nominations must be submitted by Friday, July 4, 2008.

I'll go for Naka's goal against the Huns and here's why:
1. I didn't know what football was at the time of Demolition Derby therefore I was not aware of the existence of a club called Celtic, meaning that I did not witness Larsson's chip live (thankfully I was able to witness the KOK in the Hoops as I became a Tim two years later)
2. We hadn't scored against the Huns for 16 months and that such an outrageous strike from Naka should break the deadlock was really awesome. I had nearly forgotten what it was like to score against them.
3. Naka's goal really was important. We probably wouldn't have won that match let alone the league had he not scored that one. Only some real piece of genius would have scored past that defence. Henrik's goal certainly was a skillful world-class individual effort but it wasn't all that important - we would have won the match AND the league anyway. Alright, maybe it was important for the morale.
4. It was great to see Naka silence those who doubted that he could ever deliver against them - especially that the previous day I had read a comment on a Hun website saying "Naka's *, he's never scored against us and never will - 52 and counting" - GIRUY!:bbpd:
You may think that I am biased but I honestly cannot think of a goal that was more important, beautiful and full of emotions at the same time.Last edited by a moderator: Jun 24, 2008 -

great goal, mind that big ginger fud gough tryin tae strangle big stubbs just before it??? a great piece of refereein to play advantage eh??
that goal wasnt in the spl though, ah think it started the following year?? -
It's too difficult to decide between Larsson's, Naka's and Lambert's goals v the huns. I loved Lubo's 2nd at greyskull in the 3-0 game and Maloney's long range shot at CP(not sure if that was league or cup though).
-
What about Maloney's flying scissor kick when we gubbed dunfermline 8-1, think that might get my vote
