agreed - Celtic have done all they can to sign him - VIP treatment, highest paid in SPL etc - if he chooses not to come its not our fault

No reflection on celtic, but it dosen't bode well if we cannot attract a 35 yr old on a bumper 2 yr deal, hope lenny has given the guy a deadline, if it's to be a no then it's on to the next target............:shamrock:

Just because one or two people manage to play to this age before their bodies give out does not mean that everyone else can, which was my original point. I'm not saying that Campbell definitely cant do it, just that it is very much a play it by ear situation for guys at that age and not an ideal scenario to be a) depending on for results and b) shelling out huge amounts of cash on wages.

I disagree Danni, I beleive we have the funds to make a decent signing in this area. That said, such a player would quickly become out of our price range if we were to embark on signing guys like Campbell, Bullard, Bellamy, Keane etc on massive wages.

I hope you're right, I just don't see it myself.

I believe Lennon will be given financial backing but I just have a feeling that it wont be in the form of spending a lot of money on one player, hope I'm wrong though.

I think the way the money is spent will come down to Lennon himself, the overall amount will be shaped by outgoings. Unfortunately, the early signs say to me that Lennon wants to go about his first transfer window very much like MON did his. However, the current footballing landscape is very different to what it was ten years ago, hence whispers of selling off the family silver and (supposedly) going after players in the twilight of their careers.

Amazing how this guy comes out requesting hard proof about our european intentions.

My response would be, "Remember that personal time off we said you could have during the Champions League qualifiers and pre-season training? it's off the table. Also, we're not prepared to wait a month for you to make up your mind when our season will be shaped within this period, either sign and get training or we move on."

    Barge pole.

I'm loving how the papers have twisted the facts, once again, so they can use the headline "SOL NOT SOLD ON CELTIC"...all the guy's said is, he wants to wait until he comes back from his honeymoon before deciding, typical guttertrash *.

On topic, I reckon we should forget about Sol and move onto the next CB target. The quicker we get the new players in and settled before next season, the better. We can't be waiting until after our first CL qualifier (next month) to find out wether or not a 35 year old player wants to join us.

I reckon Sol wants to stay in London and will only move to Celtic as a contingency plan assuming Arsenal don't offer a suitable deal.

I understand he needs time to think about it but needing a month concerns me, his gut instinct should already be telling him what to do.

    Here's his quotes;

"We have to see where the club wants to go, really."I think they know that they are going to win the league or finish second."It is really going to be dependent on where they want to go in Europe."Celtic is a massive club and they should have that kind of mentality."I am sure they will."

Disappointing coming from a guy who wont even be there for the first European game, and probably not fit for the second.

    I agree.

Sign Ramis from Mallorca and forget about Sol. Want another player who is committed and signed to the club for few years rather than loan signing. Ramis is the answer.

Lenny is being undermined & totally owned - this doesn't bode well.

Lenny/Lawell are coming across as Sol Campbell's * in all of this. Allowing him to miss one of the most important games of the season to go on holiday, when he's already been on holiday for about 3 months, offering him a 2 year massive contract at his age & generally bending over backwards & allowing him to then go to the press & ridicule the club & SPL.

Pathetic & I'm not liking how Lenny/Lawell are going about this one little bit. As said earlier - make your mind up now Sol, or * off back to Notts County for your European football.

I have to agree with you mate why should we wait for him and let him miss one of our most important games of the season , the longer it drags on the less time we have to look for another centre half do it quickly or dont do it at all .

Not saying I disagree with you here mate because I think like yourself we should tell Campbell sign now or go. Would just like a few points cleared up...

How do we know what contract Celtic have offered??...
We can't stop a free agent speaking to the press??...
What did he say that led you to thik he was ridiculing Celtic??...
How would you suggest they go about it??considering no one really knows is going on...

A bit arrogant really. He is at the end of his career and should be grateful to be given the chance of Europe. Sure he was thinking that when he signed for Portsmouth! :38:
