Should Campbell sign, only time will tell, however players at this age (36 in a couple of months) are entering into the unknown in terms of how their bodies will react to the rigours of a full season (which Campbell didnt have last season). Perhaps especially so for players who are of a larger frame and weight than others.

Also, our short-term defensive requirements certainly dosen't exclude players in their mid twenties.

I would suggest that Weir has only played week in week out as a result of desperation, i'm positive that if they had been able to make signings for his position over the last two years they would have done so and he would have had less playing time.

I fully agree that if they (rangers) had have had a choice Weir wouldn't have played as much as he did but he did play and won player of the year. If he can do that at 40 whats stopping Sol. We know he is fit or Wenger wouldn't have resigned him. If his attitude is good there's no reason why he cant be good for us. An experienced, no-nosense, high-level CB is something we desperately need, and a goal-scorer of course.:50:

I don't think it is desperation myself. Smith has played Weir I suggest because he knows Weir is still capable of playing at the top level, and that includes the CL, and he trusts Weir to the letter to carry out his instructions on the field of play.

Sol Campbell at 35 is a fair comparison I would suggest, and as he is a known exponent of physical fitness, clean living, and with meticulous attention to footballing detail, would be in a similar position to carry out Lenny's instructions to the letter on the field of play

Sadly its just the way people in England look at us.. "Look, we know you're going to come first or second in the SPL.. Big deal. It's a two horse race. So what about in Europe?" And we're looking even less stable right now than we did when we went into Europe last season with Mogga, with a less experienced manager, even more players leaving, and players coming in, at least thats the way it seems right now... What can you expect? Hopefully we'll get lucky and he'll decide to sign with us though.

I don't think we should be hanging round waiting on this guy to make up his mind when it could take weeks and could potentially cost us other signing targets!! Sol ure 35,get a grip!!

    Dunno what he expect?

We'll do anything to win the league next season, which mean Champions League next season (his second and maybe last season if he signs).
With the current financial conditions we can't garantuee quality that can go far in Europe.

What Lenny can say is it's his ambitions to bring in good players and good characters.

I'm afraid this transfer still depends on what Wenger have to offer. Just don't hope we'll wait forever.

I have reservations about a few of the players we have been linked with but as for Sol Campbell, he is better than McManus, Loovens and O'Dea, and his experience can hopefully help with the development of Thompson, Rogne and Misun.

Our defence needs experience so badly right now, buying a decent 27/28 year old is likely to be out of our price range so that leaves us with younger or older, we have enough youth so that leaves us with those at the end of their career.

I won't be happy if all of our signings are players from England at the end of their career, but for this one position he may be exactly what we need right now and I believe he will do a job for us if he signs. Yes it's a short term signing, but we need someone for right now in the centre of defence and he could still have a positive influence on the future if he helps develop our younger players in that position. However, I would have reservations about his wages.

i'd pull out of negotiations with him. He is clearly using our club to try and get a move elsewhere. He has had 6 weeks since the end of the season to sort out his future and he still want another month. We can't be mucked about waiting on Campbell and potentially lose other targets. It's pathetic that he wants to wait until his wedding is over to make a decision - thats at the start of August. If he does sign that means we have a player who hasn't kicked a ball or kept up his fitness in almost 3 months, only 2 weeks prior to the SPL starting.

He wasn't so concerned about Europe when he signed for Notts County last summer

Sorry, we cannot and should not be prepared to wait a month for him to make up his mind. Alternative signings will not wait around and we could then be left with what we have and we all know that this is not good enough. Sol, we would be happy to have you, but sign now or forget it.

Can't fault the board or the manager. At least we can see they are trying.
