I would say if you are outside a pub the chances are very high there are going to be people smoking outside as they can no longer smoke inside. Is it realy that hard to notice the folk who are smoking and not sit next to them ?

'I pay for the * so it's okay to exhale the smoke wherever I want' - Hilarious. :56:

Nothing worse than sitting having lunch in a beer garden and some tosspot sparks up upwind and it comes bellowing towards you.

I can tolerate smoking. I'll happily have a chat with someone while they are smoking.

Smokers should just open their eyes and realise that the people around don't want 2nd hand smoke in their face. It's not rocket science.

It shouldn't be banned in beer gardens, though. Just a bit of common sense wouldn't go a miss. I know I would certainly stop smoking around others if I knew it was making them feel uncomfortable.

Why take children to a beer garden anyway? Places like parks, childrens play areas etc will have no one smoking around places like these.

Smokers got banned from smoking indoors so they have every right to smoke out in the open beer garden or not so i find it quite puzzling as to why you would still take your kids to a beer garden anyway which is guaranteed to be full of drunks and people that smoke?

Smoking in public places is near enough banned as it is anyway.

Smoking in beer gardens though; how the * can you ban that man. I've never heard anyone complain about that.

Eat in doors like we have to smoke outdoors ( which includes the * rain, -10 temperatures, 80 mph winds ) or go to a * resturaunt its that simple.

Absolute joke that people would choose to have there kids around smokers for the enjoyment of sitting outside with a meal getting * in the sun rather than a resturaunt with an outdoor sitting area which in some places has banned smoking.

Some of the resturants with an outdoor sitting area have banned smoking on the outdoor section.

I thought if it was an actual restaraunt, not just a pub grub place, then even if they have an outdoor area it is illegal to smoke? As it is classed differently than pubs etc.

A drug's a drug and if you are addicted to one then I don't see how others should suffer for your addiction too, in fact your post exemplifies the typical * every err * as long as I get my way attitude of the selfish smoker.

    I'm not picky.
I think one of the best things that has happened has been the banning of smoking in public places. For years we non-smokers have had to just put up with the smoke OR it's us that have had to go outside if we couldn't stand it (or just not go into the building). I mean why should it have been up to the non-smoker to either have to move or not go into a building just to accommodate the smoker? It's the smoker's choice to smoke so it's only right that if THEY want to smoke then THEY should go outside - not the non-smoker.

I think beer gardens are a bit more of a tricky one because it's already outside BUT I do still think there should be a designated area away from the main eating area where the smokers can get their fix. There's nothing worse than eating away when all of a sudden someone suddenly lights up next to you and the smoke is blowing all over you and your food. Plus for that to happen is just sheer ignorance as well. Smokers do have a right and it's their choice to pollute their lungs with smoke but it's my right to breath fresh air and for me to do this I shouldn't have to be the one that moves just so smokers can get their fix.

I remember pub & restaurant owners coming out saying at the time that they will lose money and custom if the smoking ban went ahead and they were not looking forward to it. Mere months after the smoking ban was implemented in March of 2006 in Scotland these same people said that their takings had sky rocketed. Reason being? All the non-smokers that couldn't stand to go into the places because they couldn't enjoy themselves because of the dank, smokey atmosphere and were staying away were coming in because it was now fresh. Obviously the smokers will still go to these places but now because they take their habit outside, the non-smokers can enjoy going into the places as well now.

I just wish they would put a nationwide smoking ban in public in America instead of it being just up to the individual States.

will you still be complaining about smokers outside when it comes December and the temperatures drop to below minus doubt that very much and why the * would you even take your kids to a pub in the first place that's just completely irresponsible

I haven't once complained about smoking in a beer garden. My points have been about the selfish attitudes of the majority of smokers.

I don't think anyone is arguing for the smoking inside public places to be revoked. It's the stuff outside, a lot of the beer gardens have sprung up just for there to be an area for smokers to have a *. I know it was the case with a few of my local pubs which didn't see the need to go to the expense in Scotland.

If you aren't allowed to smoke outside of a pub then without doubt, sales would fall. I certainly wouldn't be drinking there anyway; I'd go to a mates house or stay in mines and have a tipple and go outside for a * in peace.

    Hate smoking indoors.

Not illegal some restaurants that ive been to (not many) with an outdoor sitting area have just put up a no smoking logo.

I smoke and if i was sitting in the out door section of a restaurant i wouldn't smoke at all, but if its a beer garden and people are dumb enough to take there kids to a pub with drinkers and smokers all contained in the one place then you have to ask yourself whos right and whos wrong?

In the summer its great sitting out in the beer garden having a drink and a meal etc but some people need to remember that in this country we only get about 10 days of hot weather and smokers now need to sit out in the 'beer garden' and smoke in the rain, sleet, snow and wind.
