The players took to the courts, but it is not the players that face the sanctions, it is the Swiss FA and FC Sion.

FIFA handed them a transfer ban. They continued to sign players while the ban was in place. They broke the rules. Regardless of whether or not the ban was correct in the first place, I'd assume it is, they broke a ruling on signing players.

They were warned prior to the Europa tie not to field any player ineligible for the game and went ahead and played them anyway. Broke the rules again.

The Swiss FA told Sion not to field or sign these players, they decided to play and sign players, Broke the rules again.

The players then went to a Swiss court to get another ruling and the Swiss FA backed down to allow them to play the ineligible players. Swiss FA have now broke the rules and should be expected to be punished by UEFA for this.

Sion submitted a team to the Swiss FA for the Europa tie which included players who were not permitted to play, the Swiss FA agreed to the player list/team. Again, breaking the rules have approved the team sheet.

It is Sion and the Swiss FAs responsibility to adhere to sanctions put in place against the team. They play under UEFA and therefor must accept any UEFA ruling.

UEFA/FIFA are not stopping the players "working" as you put it, as they should never have been handed a "job" in the first place.. i.e they shouldn't have been signed due to the sanctions placed upon Sion.

The governing body's statutes ban any football-related disputes being taken to the courts and federations which fail to enforce this can ultimately be suspended.

"Fifa and Uefa, in a letter sent on 10 August, underlined the strict application of the regulations and informed the Swiss Football Association that they are expected to comply with them and to take the necessary measures to respect them," Fifa said.

"Fifa does not put any pressure on the Swiss Football Association but, jointly with Uefa, only refers to existing regulations."

Again.. broke the rules.. How many times are they going to be allowed to break the rules?

You can't sign up to UEFA and agree to the T&Cs then change your mind when they give a ruling you don't like.

If the case is so crystall clear, why has nothing happened yet? Why didn't UEFA intervene after Sion fielded the "non-eligible" players at Celtic Park? They qualified them. How can they say now, they were not qualified? Seems rather schizophrenic to me.

See. I'm not even trying to defend Sion. Or Constantin. I'm just saying it is a very complicated situation. UEFA might well exclude und sanction Sion. They just have to be creative if they want to do this. Also Celtic may be reinstalled these days. But the case won't be finisihed by then. It'll just be the start.

UEFA are trying to hold on for clarification from the CAS that the club breached the transfer embargo handed to them by FIFA and upheld by the CAS before making an official decision on whether to exclude Sion from their Europa League competition. As the ban had nothing to do with UEFA in the first place they are unwilling to jump to any conclusions. The problem they have now is that the CAS has said that any hearing of that case is unlikely to be resolved before the end of September. Celtic have handed UEFA an official protest which has the backing of the Scottish FA, FIFA's Sepp Blatter and UEFA's Michel Platini, that case will have to be resolved before the next Europa League game regardless of whether the CAS have ruled on their matter or not. UEFA now have a decision to make whether to expel Sion from their competition without the help of the CAS, if they do then they run the risk of the CAS ruling that the players were indeed eligible (although this is highly unlikely) and will owe Sion some form of compensation. If they decided to keep Sion in the Europa League and they are found guilty of fielding ineligible players then they've got one almighty mess on their hands as they'll have to come to * knows what decision regarding what the do with that Europa League group, if the decision includes Celtic not being involved then Celtic will be due some form of compensation from loss of potential earnings.

a few of the swiss papers are saying that too that sion will have a next season ban and be allowed to play this season europa cup and sounds like uefa are making sure they dont want to upset the swiss club and not surprised at this and if celtic had done this we would have been thrown out :47:

It's just one paper that says this, and it's not a really reliable one. I doubt this will happen as it simply wouldn't make sense. Either Sion cheated and they're out now or they didn't and they'll stay in.

STV Grant: With regards to Sion: No date set by either UEFA or CAS into their separate hearings. Suggestion any punishment wouldn't apply until next season "highly unlikely" according to UEFA.

Yes, although ''highly unlikely'' isn't as convincing as i'd like.

I have a feeling that any action that can be taken against Sion will be too late. The only thing we can hope for is compensation from UEFA for once again * us.

Appeals, possible compensation and a delay of the group could sway the decision in the Swiss' way unfortunately. Even though justice is only served by them getting kicked out for dis-regarding rules every club has to obey. Makes a mockery of the whole Organisation to be honest.

One thing i do know .. with each passing day you can guarantee our chances are slimmer.

Living next to each other doesn't necessarily mean you're good friends with somebody. In fact, Constantin and Sepp Blatter are the worst enemies. You should read their respective interviews in the Swiss press. More than anything this is a personal struggle between two bullheaded maniacs.
