i think we're clutching at straws here, I dont give a * if they had players who were technically ineligible. If it came down to the crunch does anybody think if for example we played Stoke we would have beat them?

I have a lot of sympathy with those saying that after the two performances with Sion (I think the root of our problems were the first leg tactics and performance) we should forget Europe till 2012, but we desperately need the income from those 6 europa league games.

quit dealing with the hypothetical. there is a very real possibility Celtic will be in europe as a result of Sion's lets face it, cheating. and what? you wanna not show up because its not conventional? jesus h.

we're out of europe. next minute we're in europe. more money, possibility of more signings, coefficients raised. cant you see this as a blessing? be happy man. when do teams ever get this kind of luck? we've may now be snatched from the jaws of defeat in a way hollywood couldn't conceive. cheer up!

If Lennon can say to a potential signing 'we have 6 big european ties (I think they are, maybe 4, but don't under estimate Rennes) that will certainly help. Problem is will the definitive answer be given by 6 pm Tuesday? The transfer window slams shut 36 hours later.

Anyone got that news article or interview from before the first leg where the madman Sion chairman says he'll field those players because they are in the team and it's his job to sign players and field them?!?

Doubt it will happen. Rangers fans will be mad if they found out we'd made it through this way:56:

UEFA angry over Sion signings

August 26, 2011

UEFA has warned FC Sion that they face being kicked out of the Europa League after flouting a one-year transfer ban imposed upon them this summer.

[IMG] GettyImagesFC Sion midfielder Giovanni Sio celebrates after making it 3-1 to eliminate Celtic

Europa League: Sion eliminate Celtic
The Swiss club's ban was originally imposed in 2009 when goalkeeper Essam El Hadary broke his contract with Egyptian club Al-Ahly to join them, but it only took effect in January after a lengthy appeals process.
Sion eliminated Celtic in the play-off round on Thursday but used players signed this year and UEFA is ready to throw them out of the competition and reinstate the Scottish club.
"It [Sion] signed players and then played these players in clear violation of the ban," UEFA President Michel Platini said.
The news came just hours before the draw for the Europa League group stages on Friday.
"Sion will be in the draw but on the condition that there is this protest which will be looked at by the (UEFA) disciplinary body," UEFA general secretary Gianni Infantino confirmed.
Sion landed a tough draw with Atletico Madrid, Udinese and Rennes.

Clutching at straws.

Only we could paper over the cracks with false hope - we'd be lucky to take a point in that group.

As someone said earlier No debt = no trophies. Never a truer word said.

Do you know the facts or even half of them mate. This isn't clutching at straws this is being debated because it's a firm possibility. More likely than not.

Who cares about the facts; its a silly rule - they were a better team than us.

Eligibility laws are for the Albion Rovers/Livingstons of this world who mistakenly play trialists/register amateurs.

We were well beat.

Rules are rules, if a club breaks them then they should suffer the consequences. Or should we all say * the rules and play anyone we like? suspended players, players without work permits, players on pre-contract agreements? because obviously the rules wouldn't matter and we could say so what if the players weren't eligible,we were the better team.

Exactly let's sign players when the window shuts and play them too cos there isn't too much difference really

i dont care if sion get thrown out and we take their place ,it will be tainted by the fact that we couldnt beat them by our own efforts and anybody who thinks otherwise ought to take a good look at themselves and the facts. Our best team couldnt beat a team from the middle of the swiss league with players who have hardly played together and who quite frankly looked more accomplished footballers than us and i'm sad to say had more will to win

We were down to 10 men after 3 minutes, I think that had a lot to do with the performance.

We were down to 10 men after 40 seconds but thats because we rely on the same pishy centre half each and every week - it would be tainted ; I would take getting through but we'll be embarrassed in the Group Stages.
