    I'm not picky.
On the one hand it would be excellent for us to get through to the group stages but on the other I would prefer it if we could play them just to prove that we CAN get there by playing and not just relying on a buy to get through to the groups. Good to go through but not by the most ideal of circumstances.

If it does happen it will be viewed as us being jammy by certain areas of the press, media and certain clubs BUT it's something that is outwith our control and it's not like we knew this was going to happen and said to UEFA "yeh, give us a draw with Sion will ya". As pointed out before, it would have happened with ANY team that drew Sion.

I know that I would be calling the huns jammy if it happened to them though :56:

Ach this is just the Swiss League gettin their * out, and the Daily Record photoshopping the pics.
I.e. blown out of all proportion.

Would be good if it happened - guaranteed EL place might be attractive to our transfer targets.

But I'd be amazed if it actually happened.

I'm sure the game is on your season ticket anyway, so we shouldn't lose too much money if they can't compete.

Isn't Sion one of the best clubs in Switzerland? If so, this is akin to saying that the SPL would boot Celtic for a dust-up over the eligibility of some players. Cooler heads will prevail.

I hope the game does go ahead, I have been looking forward to it and i think it would be better for team to earn their place in the group stages. Also if we go through due to this tie it will help to assuage the memories of the utrecht debacle.

I dont think this will happen. At the moment, the league-president had to give a way the case over Sion he worked on...think sion will get away with this..

They're not one of the best teams in Switzerland, the likes of Zurich and Basel have dominated the league. They are more like a Aberdeen, they had a decent period from mid 80's to mid 90's but have only had a couple of cup runs since. It is an interesting situation but personally I hope to see the game go ahead, they should leave this kind of bureaucratic stuff to the Swiss stereotype commission, come on guys...

imo this is just the worst possible case for sion, but there still is a small probability that it could happen. I just hope they take their decision quickly!
The reason they could be thrown out of the league is that they took the whole matter to a civil court instead of the sports court as it would be required by the league.

Bit off topic here but does anyone know when kick-off is. BBC Sport and a few other sites say 18:00 but celtic.net says 20:05?

I would say the celtic web site will be spot on.....Usually kick offs are at 20.05 in this country for the europa league.

No chance of Sion being booted out, their Swiss club and UEFA won't damage their relationships with the Swiss nation or at least some of it.

Blatter will talk on their behalf, he might even buy them after all the favours he has received as FIFA president, one thing for sure is they will not make life easy for Celtic.

Neil Lennon counts cost of cap calls

Neil Lennon is today counting the cost of another international break as Beram Kayal undergoes scans on the ankle he damaged playing for Israel in a friendly against Ivory Coast.

The midfielder, left, was just one of 16 Celtic players who were on duty in games spread as far apart as Hampden, Botswana and Japan.

It will only be today that they all report back to Lennoxtown, but already Lennon knows he has problems.

While Kayal was limping off at half-time in Geneva, Scott Brown was removing himself from Scotland’s friendly against Denmark.

The news on the ankle injury the skipper suffered is good, and Brown believes he will be fit to play against Dundee United, his first competitive game of the season after serving a two-match suspension.

But Kayal is more of a concern and Lennon confirmed: “Beram came off at half-time with an ankle injury, and he will have to have a scan.

“With Scott, we are hoping it is just a precautionary thing. He is still a bit tender from the tackle.

“So, again, it will all depend on what the scan shows, but he was quite confident he would be okay.”

Kayal is relieved his injury was not worse after being the victim of a heavy tackle from Chelsea’s Didier Drogba during the 4-3 defeat to Ivory Coast.

The Israeli said: “I was in shock when I felt the pain in my ankle because the first thing that flashed through my mind was what happened to Emilio Izaguirre.

“He came in very hard. In a regular game, he would have got a yellow card or perhaps even a red card for something like that.

    “He apologised to me afterwards.”

As well as checking on his walking wounded, Lennon is being forced to change direction in his search for a new keeper after Grzegorz Sandomierski flew to Belgium for signing talks with Genk.

Spurs’ veteran Carlo Cudicini has been linked as a possible target, but Lennon is expected to revisit his attempt to sign Fraser Forster from Newcastle.

Meanwhile, Sion have confirmed that, due to a reduced ground capacity, only 800 tickets will be available to Celtic fans for the second leg of the Europa League qualifier on August 25, which has an 8.30pm kick-off.

Ah, thanks for that. I was under the impression they were fairly competitive. Cheers.
