*Sign ups! FM Versus Competition

Had a wee idea for a versus tournament. If I get 3 of you interested I think it could be good fun as a 4+ man competition.

It wouldn’t be too time consuming and it would be offline in your own time within reason.

- We all start as the same club (I’m thinking Middlesbrough, Luton or maybe someone like Getafe or Fiorentina)

- Play up til transfer deadline day, set your tactics for the season and then sim to the end of the season

- Earn ‘points’ for league position, cup wins etc. all can be decided once we get numbers interested

We could aim to do a 3-5 season game considering you only need to actually play the game for a couple of summer months each season to do your transfers.

The idea would be to do your transfers, sim the season and then post to say you’ve finished season 1. When everyone has finished, post a screenshot of your season (league finish, cup finishes, transfers and tactics) and then we will tally the scores.

I’d also suggest that once transfers in are posted at the end of each season they go onto a black list and can’t be signed by anyone else for the seasons ahead.

Could do it on FM23? I assume more people would have that

 

I’m actually keen for that. Maybe have injuries off if you’re able to?

 

Bit too much going on at the moment, but it’s a good idea and I’d definitely consider doing it at another stage.

 

Not sure if you’re able to. I’d say leave them on? Adds a bit of variance into it and puts an emphasis on making sure you’ve a decent squad

I’ve literally just started a head to head vs my mate, otherwise I’d be up for it.

 

Infact, reading it again….it wouldn’t take that long, would it?

 

Don't have fm24, yet, but game to do this on fm23 in this fashion (time wise I can manage this rather than dedicating specific hours to be online together).


As an additional quirk to it, I recall years ago I would setup a save as a club, get to the first available point to save the game (start as unemployed if needed), then I would send the physical game save file to a friend.
We would then both start the save by adding a new manager and taking over the same club and see who could do best.

This meant that the save files was the same. So any ca/pa or wonderkid stats or the random generated stats for youth talent and staff was completely the same.

I’m thinking Fiorentina, Villarreal, Hoffenhein, Marseille or Rennes. All mid table roughly as a starting point and they all have about £10m to spend and should have a few decent players to work with

 

Is it 23 as not everyone has 24? My preference is 24 but I’ll reinstall it if need be.

What about something like Everton in the mix? Or are you wanting to avoid the EPL?

Outta those teams, I’d say Rennes (Gouiri and Tarrier ftw!)

Everton would be sound by me if that’s the preferred choice Im just keen to try something in Europe because I’ve not done a save outside of England yet. Rennes would be decent you reckon?

Wasn't intending to buy 24 this year, but I'm an easy persuade if we do go with 24 to buy it

As for clubs, I'd stay clear of the epl completely and go midtable/euro spot in a Spain, France, Italy yeah.

Betis, Villareal rennes, Lyon?, Wolfsburg that sorts club perhaps?

Yeah I agree with those would be happy with any. Rennes sounds good but wouldn’t mind Villarreal or Betis either

Or maybe a team that’s closer to relegation than they are to European spots could be a decent challenge?

Key has to be a club with a fair transfer budget though to work with (not silly season though).

I’m gonna say Rennes then as my nomination. If Spain, probably Villarreal.

France might be easier as you just have PSG to topple, whereas La Liga is a lot harder imo (especially if mbappe leaves on a free after season 1).

 

Yeah maybe La Liga could be better, not too many tough games in France. Villarreal so?

Using this to check what teams are sitting around the 10-13m mark in the big leagues.

Fiorentina, Atalanta, Villareal, sociedad, rennes, are probably your best bets.
