i doubt anyone thinks that would happen but in principle it should. at the very least any mark of respect shown for Remembrance day such as a minute's silence should be shown for the Easter Commemoration unless u think a Irish volunteers life given is of less worth than that of a British serviceman? Equality and parity of esteem, that's all, nothing more nothing less.

    Thats a plan mate ! :50:

I agree with wearing the poppy but only the original gesture of it - for the World War(s). The fact they have recently incorporated every conflict (including illegal ones) under the poppy banner is in my view wrong as the poppies have no significance to the Iraq conflict, to name one.

I think that's why the banner only mentioned Ireland, Iraq and Afghanistan.

Neither have anything to do with football ffs some people care more about symbols than the final result! in the 90 minutes of football only 1 thing should be on our minds and thats the score!

Don't put words in my mouth.

For what it's worth - I would say that the Easter Lily has more of a place on the Celtic jersey than the Red Poppy. Ultimately though, neither should appear on the jersey at all.

ok, but there's no getting away from the fact Remembrance Day will be honoured every year in one form or another. that's fair enough but there's good no reason why the Easter Commemoration shouldnt. the principle of equality and parity of esteem is at stake.

Celtic is based in Scotland therefore its in the UK and every football club does rememberance day and with the ill feeling alot of people already have towards celtic and the irish connection do you really think in any shape or form the club would risk the hassle and criticism of the easter lilly?

Celtic isnt in Ireland therefore it wont happen, lifes not fair and all that. In an ideal world I'd like to see the poppy scrapped also. It should be peoples own choice and when I read about people critisising people in the media who choose not to wear a poppy it * me off.

more than likely they would not but they should, thats my point. both Remembrance Day and Easter Commemoration should be given equal staus by the club. the racist attitude of scots is a fact of life but that doesnt mean it shouldnt be confronted. we should be perfectly entitled to mark both occassions with the respect they deserve.

I never said or even implied that the Easter Rising was a terrorist attack, read my comment again it was in relation to the poster bringing up ETA and the affairs in Palestine.

I don't live in Scotland - I moved to Ireland and I'm extremely proud of my Irish upbringing, however, I can separate my "Irishness" and my support of Celtic.

My point is that if the poppy wasn't ever on the top would you make this demand for the Lilly? The answer is quite clearly no, therefore it is reactionary whether you want to admit to it or not.

Wearing a Lilly won't make Celtic "more than just a football club" it's already much more than just a football club and it doesn't need to make a divisive political statement to prove that.

Exactly what do you mean by "my kind", I didn't realise you had to be a certain kind to follow Celtic.

If Celtic are going to commemorate the british army. Whats stopping them from doing it for an army who fought for Ireland?

What the * it got to do with football??

The only thing I want to see on the hoops is the Celtic badge

They have irish heritage. If it wasnt for ireland you could say that celtic may never have been founded.

celtic were founded by and irishman(brother walfrid)who happened to be in scotland at the time . his thought was to have a football club that will help the poor. i know. still celtic are SCOTTISH! and no ifs or buts will ever change that.

Its obvious he isnt denying that celtic arent a scottish club, what he is saying is that celtic should wear easter lilys to honour irelands dead since they have irish roots and because they have to wear poppys to honour britians dead. Not once did he say celtic werent a scottish club ffs.
