Should Strachan Go? (Threads Merged)

Discussion in 'Celtic Chat' started by JamesConnolly, May 24, 2009.

  1. trying not to be negative but I think the wee man has signed far too many ordinary players and his style of play is begining to grate on the majority of fans. he was a great player himself and it is a pity the current team dont mirror his style.
Thanks for the 3IAR Gordon but I think you have set the bar at a height you are unlikely to reach again.

  2. I'm not part of the we hate strachan brigade but I do think he's taken us as far as he can and the teams getting worse every season so yes i do think he should go.

  3. Cheerio Gordon :bbpd:

Surely now you have admit he must walk? The team has been playing * for 2 years, and * up the league to the worst Rangers team I'v ever saw.

    GTF WGS! :47::47::47:

  5. I'm not a strachan supporter but I don't know how much of the * we have had to put up with is down to him! Does he sign the players?

If he goes then 3 out 4 is a good record, but if he stays we would need to back him or the club would go into crisis.

  6. Im a wgs supporter but after todays performance i think it might be time to freashen things up :54:

  7. About 90%. He just cannot motivate the players at all, last week and especially today were a complete disgrace, we played as if the league was over weeks ago, just pinging the ball around like it was nothing.

  8. I still don't blame him. Let down by the board and the players, 1 goal in each of the last two games and we would have won it.

  9. I'v been a fan of WGS, because the bottom line is hes been a success. Love him or hate him, 3 titles out of 4 is a good achievement. However I feared for us, and him after last weeks "Football" match at hibs!

I think there is a big big problem in the dressing room right now, because last week we didn't look like we were a team playing for a championship. Today, well, it was not relevant after half time, the huns were never going to lose a 2 goal advantage on a day like today, and I can perhaps allow that be en excuse for the complete lack of urgency in the second half.

WGS has also got a nack for saying the wrong things, at the wrong time! When I'm hurting at losing our title so cheaply, I dont want to hear our manager congratulate Walter, Ally and that wee turncoat * McDowell! * them!

All in all I think it may be time for a change, but am a little dissapointed at the lack of appreciation shown to what the manager HAS achieved over his tenure.

I want Strachan to stay. I believe that he is the best man for the job at the moment.

Ok, he made a * up of it this season but who do you think will do a better job than him over the last view years who we could sign?!? Realistically?

    Hail hail

  11. ive been a fan of wgs since the start, and still am, i just wish he could sort out his stubborn side and drop players that are off form. i do think that we need a change, we need sum new ideas, the whole club needs a lift. i dont know who can replace him but i wouldnt want anyone like coyle or mowbray cos they arent experienced enuf.

as for the players/squad we need an overhaul. this is y i think strachan has to leave he cant be properly objective cos he signed alot of these players so it will be like hes admitting his faults by getting rid of hartley, jvoh etc. i think thats wot went wrong in MONs last year, and y it worked wen strachan came in cos he could drop players without a second thot now he cant.

You cant possibly be serious Minty.

The team needs a bit of tempo but we constantly play a slow, slow passing game. We did it today, all that happens is teams have time to get men behind the ball and we dont have the quality to play through them.

Why is Gary Caldwell our playmaker? Seriously. Every time its him coming out of the defence with the ball. Why dont we have someone in midfield doing that?

The way the team plays is down to the manager, and the team plays some *-awful stuff. The odd-time we have played well its been nothing more than a flash-in-the-pan.

I am serious. Strachan has had to overhaul an ageing squad that Martin O'Neill left behind and build one from scratch. He's won silverware in every single season he's been in the job. There are some question marks over his management but hopefully we will invest in the summer. I've already said in another thread that I don't think Strachan is completely to blame but he does deserve some criticism.

Nakamura has had the main job of 'playmaker' since he was signed but unfortunately, he's not played at his best this season. So I wouldn't say that Caldwell was our playmaker.

  14. No. He is doing a good job. Meagre resources to spend, even less now though!!

  15. the guys record speaks for itself, theres no disputing that at all!! but in my opinion hes taken us as far as he can, so my view is thanks for everything you've done for us in the last 4 years gordon but please clear your desk and leave......

  16. I agree with Minty really, but am tempted to say GTF.

Prfoblem is, the only changes I see might make things worse.

That very thought has went through my head several times today.

  18. that team of MON's must've been really bad when we need to get rid of them and replace them with, am, well players that were not up to their standard.

just because they were ageing did not make them bad players. why oh why do we listen to people like lawell thinking this is a good thing.

i can understand reducing the wage bill, but i would've liked ageing players to be replaced with quality players, not just younger ones.

I'm not saying that Martin O'Neills team were bad, it's just that by the time Strachan came in, they had all (except Petrov) peaked and were well past their best. They weren't bad players, the talent was still there, but their bodies were not.

Reducing the wage bill and bringing in younger players has resulted in a lower standard of player. We'd have to increase our wage budget and go back into debt to build a team that was as conquering as the Martin O'Neill side.
