Previously I would have agreed but last season I felt his all round game improved a lot.

I think saying he is no good there after what he showed, again, for most of last season, is harsh.

Against low blocks he can sometimes come unstuck but that's why it's important to have other options available too to change it up. Something we didn't have end of last season.

We weren't clammering for him up front for most of his time here until the past 5 months or so. So I'd like to think we could find a better striker, if needed. Folk used to say the same about Kyogo, Edouard, Dembele etc...there is always another player out there. Not saying its this guy, mind.

He became a bit of a cult figure bcoz he kept roasting that * and but let's be honest most left wingers in the league give him a torrid time

Argued the case many times. A team that dominates the ball 80% of the time shouldn't have a left winger who's best attribute is what he does off the ball

Yeah but if you go back there was plenty clamouring for a more creative left winger for the majority of his time out there.

Id say roughly 70% of the games we play are against teams that park the bus and play a low block. As a winger that doesn't suit him.

Whether we were clamouring for him as a striker prior to January or not is irrelevant. What he showed January to April was phenomenal and can't be ignored, particularly not when the options to take his place are Idah or someone who, outwith 1 decent season, has struggled to score goals in the J league

What I have seen of Yamada on his YT he looks a real handful. Stocky, bustling striker that would be a real pain for CB's. I would be for this, because it would give us an option I don't think we have had, since the days of Hooper.

The main and rather significant difference was that Hooper scored goals

Give him a chance, he is no even here yet FFS :giggle1:
With the service he will get with us, I would expect him to get a barrowload of goals.

Was more in response to you saying we won't find a better striker. Not a huge fan of that idea as we should strive to improve on every player in the squad if we can.

Personally think we perhaps could find a better allround footballer for that role but time will tell.

Just as at times we need a creative winger against low blocks I'd argue we need more of a focal point at no9.

This signing makes absolutely no sense at all.

I just think this is a bizarre signing, to be honest.

I can understand the Ambrosino signing, as he looks like he can play as an attacking midfielder and it's clear to me now that we will be moving to a 4-2-3-1 with an No. 10. So, given we didn't have any really before, Nygren and Ambrosino will play there, Balikwisha can also cover there.

    LW- Balikiwsha, Jota, Maeda
    RW- Jansson, Forrest, Nygren
    AM- Nygren, Ambrosino, Balikwisha
    ST- Maeda, Idah, Osmand, Yamada

Seems like a lot to have up front.

With the chances we create, he looks a decent player. I guess

Maeda had played under Ange, and was top goalscorer in the J league th year we signed him.

This guy is 25 and has scored 35 goals in his entire career.
If you want to compare him with Maeda that's only 3 goals more than he scored last season.

£80m in the bank, sold out main striker in January for £10m. Is this really the best we can do?

    Not seen anything of him.

We just hoping that hes another player from Japan who has excellent work rate like kyogo/maeda?

Possibly but to be honest the only times I remember is struggling to create chances against a low block in 2nd half of the season was in the games we played with a focal point up front and Maeda wide.

I agree about striving to improve upon every player but the reality is we are Celtic and that's not really how we do things.

We got lucky last season and stumbled upon Maeda as a striker (again due to our penny pinching), he was tremendous and to improve upon him we would need to spend money out board are clearly not willing to spend this summer. So that's what I ment with we are not gonna get better than him.

It will be interesting if Mbembo leaves Brentford to see if they do come for Maeda. They seem to have been constantly linked for a while now. I think at some point this summer one of the teams will test our resolve to keep Maeda.
