Your man from jsoccer magazine , who's pretty on the ball with Japanese players has talked about it I'm sure. He was talking about Kobayashi potentially moving about a week before it happened. Sure we will find out soon enough.

And a £1.5million deal for Japanese attacker Shin Yamada has moved closer.

Celts are also keen on Kawasaki Frontale striker Yamada and could conclude a deal this week.

Even if we sell Kenny, that would leave us with 4 strikers.

Either Osmund is going out on loan, Maeda is moving back to LW or one of Maeda/Idah is leaving.

It’s hard not to be negative about this one but to say it’s underwhelming is an understatement.

Are we planning another tour of Japan? Are these commercial moves? I can’t see the strategy

Possibly bringing in a small group of players to place on loan and sell on with no real promise of games for us unless they are really outstanding on their loans. Chelsea on smaller scale kinda thing just to bring in some extra money? Like ye say tho tis a strange one.

    Stockpiling backup strikers

Who the * has approved this deal bcoz it makes * all sense.

If Maeda is to remain our main striker then that gives us 4 back up strikers.

Or worse case scenario we now see Idah as our main striker and are going with a £1.5m punt on a bang average striker from Japan as his back up

Recruitment is a * shambles once again

Maybe however we still need to significantly invest in our starting XI and these project buys undermine that and take away from our budget.

Why are we not investing in the youth squads or bringing in domestic talent?

I actually think he looks suited to us.

    Weird one.

Had a * season but he actually looks like the sort of striker who’d do well for us. Tough * with pace and works his * off. If he can get some confidence back he could be great.

Ideally he’d be coming in as backup to Maeda - and if he kicks on then it allows us to move Maeda back to the left with Yamada starting up top.

    Idah though…

We could get Simon Murray who would do that. (In now way or form do I want us to sign him)

I do not believe that we should ever be signing strikers with underwhelming goal records unless there are extenuating circumstances. The standard at Celtic has to be higher than that.

Does he come in ahead of Kenny who has actually looked like he carries a threat and has been positive?

I'd rather we spent big on a winger and use Maeda centrally instead of bringing another striker in.

Maeda, Idah, Ambrosino and Osmand would be good enough for me. Yamada seems okay but my fear is he'd end up like Idah - a good squad player, not much room to improve.. and I'm not sure we need another one of those. The two young players are low risk with high potential and upside

I think Rodgers prefers Maeda wide.

Tbh I kinda do as well. I'm still not convinced that he's the type we need through the middle. In terms of being a focal point and linking with the wingers etc.

I'm not saying this guy is. But I just have a feeling Rodgers doesn't want that kinda striker.

The other thing is as much as everyone has been raving about him through the middle, he still got most of his goals as a LW last season. Assists too. Added to the fact he's basically a second left back, I think we get just as much out him there.

We are only allowed 17 foreign/non homegrown players in champions league squad. Absolutely no * chance should we he wasting one on this guy.
£80m in the bank and the best we can do is a guy who's scored 30 goals in the J league.

    * me

St mirren game and cup final showed once again why Maeda is no good wide.

His strengths are completely negated playing against low blocks and teams who park the bus.

We wont find a better striker than him. We sure as * can find a better winger than him

I think there are times where Maeda out wide is useful, i.e. he was always useful there against Rangers when their main outlet was Tavernier.

But yeah, I think he's a top striker and his best position is there. I am fine with him on the wing if we bring a top quality striker, but I think it'll be easier to find a top winger as you say.
