Glad we are giving up the ghost on this one, he has had a bad time with injuries. Also, his wage, age and fee wouldn't really be worth it.

I strongly doubt Shay Given ever had any serious intentions of taking a big pay cut to come and play for Celtic. Craig Bellamy the same.

If that's their attitude then we don't need them and I don't particularly want them.

There will be plenty other good players out there who will play for Celtic and who will fit in with our wage structure. I have confidence that Neil Lennon will find them.

Time to move on. Nothing to see here.

I think you may be mistaken.

I would imagine it's small comfort to look back on your career aged 50 or something and say - "Yeah, I had a right good wage in them days." Would feel pretty hollow I'd imagine. Compared to opening your wee drawer and taking the still-polished medals out and saying to your grandkids - "Yeah, that was me. I won them."

I think looking down and seeing his Grandchildren being well provided for would give you a warmer feeling to be honest.

I honestly don't think Shay is all that motivated by money to be honest( his wife maybe!) but i do think he wants to stay in the Premiership.

This is his last chance to come home, he will regret this for the rest of his life. Guaranteed.

When Shay looks back on his career in 20 years time it won't feel complete.

Small comfort? Why would he need comforted? He's had a wonderful career playing in a top league, being highly respected in the game and being a stalwart for his country; making a fortune for the privilege. I'm sure that will be more than enough to console the gaping wounds of his failure to win an SPL winners medal.

have u seen a handsome hun
    Picture the scene.

Shay given bounces his young grandson on his knee.

Shay's gransdson looks lovingly into his granda's eyes and asks....

"Can i see your medals Grandad from when yuou played football ?"

Shay rather embarassed by the fact that he has no medals invites his grandson to have a look at his big car.....the nice large conservatorie and the coy carp pond at the bottom of the garden. his grandson looks unimpressed.
noticing this shay slips his wallet from his pocket and says look how many notes are in my wallet.

Shays grandson slips gently from his grandads knee and never quite feels the same about his granda ever again.

And his granda says - "But OverandOver told me ah wid be happy! He lied to me! My life has been a vain and hollow sham, and but for his subtle tongue I would have been playing for the Celtic in 2012 when they famously won the Europa League." :icon_mrgreen:

I honestly thought Given, Long & Bellamy would be here by next season, now, I don't expect any of them.

Shane Long was forgotten about weeks ago. They wanted something like £7m for him and we simply don't have that kind of money right now, especially due to the fact that we've done nothing of note on the European front for a few seasons now.

Given might still come here, but if Pletikosa comes instead of him, I'll have no problem with that. Both are top quality keepers and are more than capable of keeping Nikica Jelavic at bay.

Please, please, please, no more talk of so-called 'marquee signings' of the Keane, Bellamy or Given ilk, or signing guys who think they're 'marquee signings' of the Bothroyd or Jimmy Bullshit ilk, effing nobodies that will be long forgotten before they hang up their boots.

Inability to compete with the likes of QPR would be simply embarrassing if we didn't know too well it had absolutely nothing to do with the club, only the wage packet.

We are building a healthy tendency of uncovering guys overlooked by others, but who give us as much as, if not more than any 'marquee signing' mercenary will, and won't bleed us dry as they do so.

The fact that the SPL is comparatively lower quality can't be the reason 'big' players don't come here anymore, it's always generally been of the same, or at least very similar level, it's pure money. If you have the cash people will kiss your badge.........if it's 'badge kissers' you want..............

We can win the league and get a little European run without the 'marquee' nonsense.

All fun aside, the goalkeeping situation is approaching critical. We are just over a week away from the SPL starting, which we havent won for 3 seasons. Every point is crucial, as last season showed and having a solid keeper in is pretty important.

I think Neil is looking around, this guy on trial is a last resort and am sure that Lennon will be pushing to get someone in. It may be Gordon, or it may be someone else.

I hope to * it isnt Zaluska.

With regards to other players, Neil has said he is wanting a bit of experience to complement the youth in the side which would suggest that he has a bit of money to spend. Perhaps it will be Bellamy...
