According to the mail online it was southgate who signed him for boro and they also stated that strachan tore up the 4 mil permanent deal..Your right about the appearances but I think he was left out for a few before he left them..Might have been a falling out with wgs but I've read elsewhere that he and wheater never got on and they had a bit of a scrap during a club appearance..Training ground and dressing room spats happen all the time but making public appearances for the club and behaving like this are a no no..

I just think he might be a risk at a high priced transfer,,time will tell if we get him in..

I believe a £3m offer would be accepted by Preston.

it looks like he really wants this move and he also knows a few players from international duty so this could help him settle in

£4.5 million :56: * that Liverpool paid £5 million for danny agger. Get back scouting in Europe for somebody better .

If Sean st. Ledger was 20,21 then year i'd pay that for him but its too much for a 25 year old.

Too much for a 25 year old? At 25 a defender is still to reach his peak. Plus there has been several prices getting touted about so i'd say between 2.5-3mil will get an established ROI centre half who can only get better

2-5 / 3 million for him would be ok i think but definetly that has to be the limit we pay for him as hes not a good player yes a great player no . being a ROI cb will be why hes priced so much at preston but theres not many great ROI cbs out there so not difficult to get in team imo .

just check out the transfer fees in the bundesliga or serie A for example. how many caps does he have for ireland? 5,10, 15? McManus and O'Dea had some awesome champions league games too, Mick even had some decent ones for Scotland. does that make them great players?

I'm not willing to spend £4.5 mio on somebody that isn't proved yet. if we gonna spend that much money it has to be a success. the chance is 50:50 and to me it's not worth the risk.

if he wasn't irish I doubt anyone would even be interested in him on this board.

if my memory serves me well bougherra was bought from charlton for 2,5mill!

anyway i don't think we need to worry about high price tags. our board has shown that they won't pay non realistic prices for players. so if they ask too much we'll just say thanks, but no thanks and end the negotiations!

Im sorry but the reason he is a regular in the ROI team was down to his form with Prestonwhere he was excellent and I dont think any preston fan would argue with that. and playing alongside Richard Dunne for Ireland has really improved his game and his confidence has also been boosted. (where as McManus was obviously going to be in the Scotland line up due to him playing for the biggest club in Scotland) and Sean does not make silly errors like Mick, Heid and Loovens.

for me he has proven what a good player he is and could make a huge difference to our squad.

exactly! i think the sole fact that trapattoni chose him to be in his starting line up tells the whole story as far as i'm concerned (regarding his ability).

but the problem here is the price! they are looking for an unrealistic offer in order to sell! i very much doubt that our board will do that, so they'll have to lower their asking price or else this transfer will not go through!

to be honest I don't think it takes a worldbeater to shine for a team like Preston. and how many caps has he won so far? I assume we can spend £3-4 mio this window and personally I wouldn't spend that on one single player that plays for Preston. a few caps don't make a player proven in my eyes.

£4.5m isn't a big fee in England...only for Scottish teams. Fair enough for an international defender.

That may be true but unfortunately no one will be forking out £4.5 million for either mcmanus or caldwell who are both scotland internationals and have more caps than st ledger i think (correct me if im wrong) - therefore i think we should go to £3 million max especially since he's out of contract in the summer.

their chairman thinks that st ledger is worth that much because killganon had a £4mill price stuck on him to scare teams of but all it does is encourage the players to sign pre-contract agreements that way the club gets hee-haw
