You pay good money for quality!!! we already had the quantity thing with Strachan and now were getting rid of them! the young lads can make up the squad depth and do us a turn..now we need instant first team improvement so we pay for the quality in St Ledger am sure he will be a good impact signing if we get him.

CELTIC have been warned they will have to stump up around £4.5m if they want to sign Preston defender Sean St Ledger. The Championship side were unimpressed by Celtic's initial offer of £1.75m. (Daily Mail)

No way, am wondering where all these figures are coming from. I personally think we should be paying 2-3million tops. Celtic only spend that sort of money on * strikers.

Think we should wind up talks with them, he's not worth that in the our world & he'll probably want about 30k wages.

We have to go outside of UK for players, look at Caldwell ffs - £1million + p.a. = nonsense.

Solvi Ottesen is the way forward.

I think St Ledger is a cracking player and a winner as well. He is exactly what we need and i would up the bid to 3 million. Do preston not fancy any of our fringe players? What about Mcmanus down there?

Does he not only have 6 months left on his contract 3 million is a pretty heavy fee if thats all he has left on his contract.

    No thats Kilgallon.

£3million I think is an acceptable price for a Irish international but i wouldnt pay anymore. We cant afford it.

How can this go from 2.5 million to 4.5 million in a matter of days basically its a come on lets see how serious you are about getting him ,if Celtic upped there bid to 2.5 million they will get him ,is he worth this kind of money ive seen him maybe 3 times tops and he was good ,the thing that worries me about players like this is ,yes he is an international player in a very good team but why is he stuck at a team of Prestons stature ,why hasnt even some of the lesser teams in the EPL not made a move for him at this kind of money ,its a snip to these clubs but 3million is a lot to Celtic.

From what I've gleaned from the media £3m sounds about right - £4.5m is a push too far for us.

£3-4.5 mio for a Preston player. we could get proven national players for that amount of money. I also dare to say we could get most bundesliga players for the same price. I just hope he won't turn out to be another Adam Virgo...

I think celtics valuation was about right,,theres no way we should pay up to 4.5 mil for a player who got sent back from a loan spell after not being able to hold down a regular start..Somethings wrong with this lads attitude or abillity,,I think if he was so good his team would'nt have sent him on loan to begin with..Leave him be celtic,, we have enough in defence to see us through this campaign and if tm wants to strengthen in the summer then fine..

wouldnt pay 4.5 mill unless we sold some other deadwood; McManus, Naylor, Wilson etc; if celtic wont go that far i could see us moving in for killgannon instead

i am glad that we are being far more active, the board seem to have learned their lesson from last year; in an ideal world (i.e Football Manager lol) id sign another Centre Back, maybe a young LB (though maybe Misun can be that), and another forward; do that and i think we have an excellent chance of winning back the league

First of all he made 15 appearances for Boro, so I don't think he couldn't hold down a starting spot. Second, he is not the first person to have a falling out with Strachan (remember McGeady?), he has been perfectly fine with his current manager and Trappatoni. Third, Strachan paid quite a bit for him to go on loan, I'm sure that's why Preston let him leave on loan, not because he wasn't good enough for Preston.

I think we should definitly be going outside of England to buy players you can get players of St.Ledger's standard for around 2m elsewhere.

Look at Bougherra and Cueller, if they scumbags across the town can find these players for reasonable cheap prices, why can't we?

proven national players? really do tell who you beleive is a better option for that price, Sean has proved himself with the ROI to be a top defender plus he is young and will no doubt improve. the way he played against France, Italy and Bulgaria etc was very impressive and he surely didnt look out of place at all. if he was able to cope with the threat of Henry, Anelka, Berbatov, Pazzini etc with such ease then im sure he will be a star in the SPL.

    get him Signed Tony

Do we have £4million to spend though. We have already spent nearly £4million so far. When the robson caldwell deal goes through then we will def know how much we are receiving for them but dont think they will spend that if they are also on the look out for a striker if the papers are to be believed.
