Silverburn Shopping Centre in Glasgow and Union Square in Aberdeen have said they are going to start random bag searches of customers due to the increased terror alerts.

To be fair, if you've nothing to hide then it shouldn't be a problem.
I'd rather have my bag searched mate as opposed to be oot shopping with my missus and weans and get blown up to * or shot/stabbed.PaulM1888, Pablo87 and Marty McFly like this. -
If it was the Police doing the searching then fair enough but not those power tripping police wannabees in the shopping centres called security.

If they catch one person it will worth 1000s of searches. They can search my bag anytime I've nothing to hide. Also got a family member that works at silverburn. -
They won't catch no one.
When was the last time a terror attack happened in either of these places? When was the last one to be at a shopping centre?
Not saying they can't happen there, but it isn't exactly the first place on your mind when you think of the potential attack. They are completely * random to joe bloggs.
More so, imagine for a moment you are a terrorist and you have a backpack full to the brim with explosives. Along comes said power hungry racist security guard and asks to look in your bag. What do we think is the first reaction from the terrorist? "Oh here you go mister kiddie on police man, have a look in my bag" ?

It was what we had in Daily life in Belfast. City centre you had to go through a checkpoint on any street you entered and once you got through Seccurity in shops then searched you!

Don't get what this really achieves tbh. Obviously I get the objective, but is it really the best way to prevent an attack?
If some loonball is stoating about Braeheed with a IED on his back, he's just going to detonate it when the non-armed security force asks to see in his backpack (assuming it's centre security).
If he's in there with weapons, fair enough, might stop the eventuality, but at that point the attacker is already in the centre with his weapons and could as easily just skull the guard and whip out a weapon.
If anything a bag search should be at the door, first and foremost. Metal detectors and bag search on arrival. You can't get in a shopping centre in Indonesia (Bali) for example without first having your bag checked. This might happen now, but it didn't when I was last back. -
Didn't a guy with a suicide vest on not get rumbled by security at the stade de France and he detonated it there and then? I think it did prevent a lot of fatalities. Do agree though it does seem a waste of resources, there are many buildings in any city which will house loads of people in confined spaces where it is not viable to police at every minute of every day...or even ensure it is 100% secure at all times.

I believe at least one of the attackers tried to gain entry without a ticket and was refused. One was allegedly patted down and the suicide vest was discovered.
The general theory is that they didn't expect to get into the stadiums and instead planned to detonate in the queues and fanzones outside the stadium. Police think that they were late arriving at the stadium for whatever reason.
I think there was two or three and they killed one person, or something stupid like that.
I went to a few of the Euro games in France, and they were patting everyone down at the stadiums, searching bags, shoes all sorts, yet loads of fire crackers, flares and smoke bombs got in. Just goes to show. One of those loud bangers went off rows from me and given all the scares around, it was a scary couple of seconds. -

I dont think it will be the case of searching someone who has just blootered 40 quid in Primark but more people with things like rucksacks and big bags? Union Square have said even if you refuse your bags to be searched you can continue shopping. I wouldnt think they would have a leg to stand on in if they ask you to leave for failing a search as is it not only the polis who can really search you if they have suspicion?
