Ronny has said that he will always look to sign the best players in our league first. Is this a good strategy? If so why didn't we sign Shinnie and McGinn on free transfers? Are their any other players in Scotland good enough to play for us?

Much better having the root of the squad used to playing in these conditions/against scottish teams first and foremost. Then later on we can focus on bringing players from abroad and have it easier for them to adapt. Very good strategy

I thought he was quoted as wanting "Scottish players", not "Scottish based players"?
-
And its good to get young Scottish player experiencing the Champions League as it should benefit the National team. Future Scotland midfield, Allan, Armstrong, GMS & wee Forrest.

I was going to start a similar thread.
I don't know if this is an excuse for bean counting.
There is the question whether there is enough talent in Scotland to sustain a spine of a successful (competing in Europe) team. Brown and Gordon make a case while there are major question marks over Armstrong, Forrest and GMS. Allan may fall into the latter category as a good SPL level player but at this point who knows.
I do like the idea of alot of Scots in the team, I just don't know if we have the talent in the country. -
Shinnie is a very good player. Don't know why we overlooked him considering he's a LB.

Dont want to overload the squad with Scottish players though as most of them arent that good.
Gordon, Mulgrew, Brown, Armstrong, Henderson, Allan, Forrest, GMS and Griffiths - that's plenty for now, I wouldn't sign another for a good while. Its probably the most Scottish players we've had in the squad since about 2008 before Mowbray came in and Hartley, Robson, Caldwell, McManus were all binned.Last edited by a moderator: Aug 14, 2015 -

A would take everyone off them and take all the rising talent in the league. £1.6million would get them all. And you could easily sell them on in a few years for 1.6 million each at the very least.
Nearly 10 million profit man :) -
I think we've scraped the barrel. -
Souttar and McGinn are the only other two I would have taken, possibly Bain as back-up goalie but we have Baily now.
It's good to have a Scottish core to the team as A) We're Scottish and B) I think Scottish players are less likely to move on after 2 or 3 good seasons with the club, so Scottish players give our teams consistency.
A team full of Scottish players won't progress us but a team with the best young Scottish players mixing it with very good young talent from around the globe will and it will benefit the national team as well.
Gordon, Mulgrew, Brown, Henderson, Armstrong, Forrest, GMS, Allan, Griffiths - that's a good strong Scottish base. They will rarely, if ever, all play at once but it's good to have. I think we have enough now though for a while. -
-
How on earth did you arrive at that figure? What past transfers give you that indication?

I don't think there are many more that can make the step up at this moment but there are a few to watch
The young keeper Bain (Dundee) souttar (Dundee Utd) christie(ict) also liked the Patrick cb that was linked with Everton

I think we have too many now. We still let the best ones go down south or further a field like Tony Watt, Ryan Gauld, Andrew Robertson etc
-
There is no such thing as too little or too many.
Players are bought on their individual merits, we're not buying or refusing to buy a player because of their nationality.
If someone is good enough I.e. Allan, we are clearly in the market to buy them. That's a good thing. -
I get the feeling that a Scottish player of similar talent to an overseas player would be worth less - probably because the national team is pish and the league is balls.
Something to consider as we are a selling club
