You've effectively said it. Your analysis of the evidence is right and anyone who disagrees is a 'fucktard' or 'idiotic'.

No-one is disputing he's had good games for us, people are simply saying they're become less and less frequent. As shown by the drop in his stats and 2 managers (one of which who at one point thought the sun shone from his *) benching him.

For me, 1 good game in every 5 or 6 doesn't warrant grounds for a contract extension. Neither does the fact that he made a difference in Champions League qualifiers 2 seasons ago, he played in all 6 qualifiers this season and got 0 assists, 1 goal.

If that's the plan and there are willing buyers then I'm all for that.

I’m not criticising the opinions of people who are saying he hasn’t been good enough. That’s perfectly fine and despite some extreme knee * reactions from our fans, I agree. It’s there for all to see that his performances have dropped, nobody here can deny that and I haven’t even mentioned that because it’s not the argument I’m making.

You’ve ignored my point again and the actual argument I’m making about how important he could potentially be going into this new season with a new manager and a fresh squad. Someone who’s played in Europe, played for us, won trophies and knows the enormity of the situation. You need that core in the squad and I’m much happier going into the qualifiers with him than I would be without him, as no doubt we will still be building the squad when they start.

We might sign a replacement before, during or after the qualifiers. We might even sell him before, during or after the qualifiers depending on the bid. But right now we have him, a stable squad member going into our most important season in recent history.

Just as people want Lennon to take the reigns for some stability and known ability, having the players along the same lines is never a bad thing.

Fair enough - your opinion is your opinion. But can't help but think you're making him out to be some kind of seasoned warrior in that post though - rather than the World Hide-and-Seek Champion that he's become in recent years.

He shown plenty of skill in his time here - but not a single ounce of bottle. I don't trust him.

What does that actually mean though?

Experience is only worthwhile if you can back that up with quality on a football pitch and at present Sinclair isn't doing that against far inferior opposition than what we will come up against in the Champions League qualifiers. I would think that's far more relevant than having blind faith that he can replicate his contribution from our qualifiers in the 2016/17 season. He played in every single one of our qualifiers this season and had minimal input as we crashed out.

There's no doubt, it's going to be a huge summer for us with players leaving and coming in but we have a nucleus of players who have more experience in these qualifiers and that you can hang your hat on to put in a shift and performance. Brown, Tierney, McGregor, Forrest, Edouard are the ones I'm looking at. If they're fit then they're playing. If the qualifiers started next week then Sinclair wouldn't be anywhere near the starting XI.

Brown and Tierney aren't going to score the goals you need in Europe. McGregor and Forrest will contribute. Edouard is young and relatively new to European football but will of course score goals. Whats the harm in having one more older head who's capable of that one bit of magic that could be the difference between qualifying and not qualifying? Why wouldn't you want him there in case, rather than banking on a replacement which we might not even get?

I'm not often one to get into stats when making arguments as we both know football is so much more than goals and assists, but he had a goal and an assist last qualifiers (you said he had no assists). He had 5 goals and 2 assists the year before. The goal against AEK couldn't have been a more high pressure goal, it got us back into it, however we don't need reminded how that went. But that's what he's capable of. I'm not willing to completely write off a player who's scored 17 goals from the wing in a bad season. The way some people talk about him is embarrassing. This isn't Hendry, Compper, Boerrigter, Bangura. Someone actually said Hayes is better than him.

No I'm not expecting a huge season from him. Who knows what our squad will look like by the time the qualifiers come, but knowing he will be there for selection is nothing but a good thing.

I'm not remotely bothered by his wages.

I'd much rather be paying a decent wage - even if that player isn't always in the starting XI - than filling up the squad with SPL-standard *.

If every player on the bench had the level of contribution over the season that Sinclair has had, I'd be happy to have each of them on 30k a week.

    Nobody will be.

You don't pick the team so trusting him isn't your job. Just support the guy if he's picked to play for us. We complain about not getting transfers in January to bed in and prepare for European football, but we are willing to chuck someone who's proven at that time of the season for what? A new signing? A youngster? It's hypocritical.

He's scored 17 goals this season, 4 have been pens. Last year he scored 18, 3 of which were pens.

    How awful.

Top scorer in our current squad in Europe across the last 3 seasons. But, aye, he has no bottle.

    I'm a fan & hope he stays.
However has has been in terrible form of late, inconsistant (which is every Celtic player right now imo) & low in confidence. But triggering the clause is a no-brainer, it works both ways. He's worth the 1.7mill for 15+ goals he will get next year or if Peter is ensuring he's under contract so we get 2mill from boro.

He's been a good servant. Great first season, scores goals regardless of form (till recently) & causes no issues for manager or squad. I want him to stay & I want us to improve the creative options around him.

I'd take £2m if we were offered it.

I think Sinky has been a great player for us and his goals ratio speaks for itself.

But his time here is definitely up ...he's offering very little and needs a fresh start for himself.

If we get a fee of 2mil we should take it and invest it elsewhere along with the wages he's on.

Hope he goes out on a high with another treble under his belt.

Our board don't like anybody leaving for nothing. It was guaranteed that they would take the additional year option. I can also see us selling for a couple of million.
