Scott Sinclair!

Discussion in 'Ex Players' started by TicFan88, Aug 6, 2016.

  1. That is actually annoying me listening to that interview.

I bet Barton never got quizzed like that.

I wish Celtic would just ban all these * and release everything on a club channel.

  2. Always being the case, the Scottish media are the worst around for talking down our own game. Moresoe than the English media tbh. Even when ourselves and the Huns (rip) were competing in UEFA cup finals and the CL group stages/last 16 they weren't any more positive.

The Scottish press trying to press Sinclairs buttons- he has politely told them GTF!!WELL DONE LAD!

  3. He should have asked for sub titles- there wee digs and preying Scottish Press!

  4. Watching this over is fascinating. He and Forrest are both wingers that rely a lot on their pace but the difference in quality shows up starkly in this video.

The obvious one is the finish, Forrest simply doesn't have that in his locker.

More interesting is the fact that he and Forrest start within a couple of yards of each other, both are rapid as * and both leave the majority of the Hearts players in their dust and yet Sinclair ends up in a goalscoring position and Forrest doesn't. Why?

Well Sinclair seems to be slightly faster than Forrest from that video but there's clearly not much in it, they are both rapid as *. No, watch again, as soon as the ball is turned over (by Sinclair!), Sinclair starts sprinting upfield immediately. Forrest starts a fraction of a second later, but that fraction of a second is what accounts for the majority of the gap between the two at the goal.

So from that we can see he is just as fast as Forrest (actually slightly faster) but is a much more intelligent player and has an end product.

Curious that Forrest is getting a new contract. Hopefully Sinclair will be great for him to study and learn from.

  5. I'd expect that tbh, Sinclair fresh off the bench being playing (maybe not so much at City)at a high level for years, desperate to impress on his debut and you'd probably have to say he is a better player than Forrest aswell, however Forrest had a good game on Sunday and scored a good goal and seems to be working hard under Brendan, long may it continue, hopefully the arrival of Sinclair causes him to up his game aswell.

  6. I also think Forrest is panting when he gets up there?

  7. It hardly shows up the difference in quality between them. The difference of quality, is the fact that Sinclairs a better player. Simple as.

Of course Sinclair will start his run ahead of Forrest, as soon as the ball falls at his feet he knows what he's doing, where he's putting it, if he got enough lift in the pass to get it over the defending player etc etc.

And as above, his legs are a lot fresher at this late point in the match.

Not really fascinating as it's pretty much what every man and his dog knows - Sinclair is faster and a better finisher than James Forrest. :smiley-laughing002:

  8. I'm a big critic of Forrest, but I think he done the right thing for the goal. Sinclair was through the middle and Forrest was on the outside of him, and that is where they finish up when Sinclair scores. Forrest done the right thing by staying wider in my opinion, because he would have been able to get on the end of the cross if it missed Sinclair. Why would you want two players attacking the space? Forrest can see that Sinclair is taking up the near post area, and therefore stays at the far post. I don't see anything wrong with that.

  9. Looks more like he checks his run quite correctly. Sinclair is in the box and by checking his run he can still make it to the back post on time but gives other options as well.

  10. I agree with that. I wasn't talking about what happened at the end. I was talking about the difference in speed of thought at the start.

  11. It also shows a difference in speed of though and game intelligence IMO. To me it looks like Forrest reacts to the situation but Sinclair is already thinking ahead, hence the delay in Forrest starting his run.

  12. Maybe?

Maybe he is checking his run, Maybe he is blowing out his *:56: Only wee shoders knows :56:

  13. It was just when you said about Sinclair ending up in a goalscoring position and Forrest didn't, and then asked why. That was what I was referring to. For Forrest to end up in the goalscoring position, he would have had to take up a space already being occupied by Sinclair.

  14. Yes, I know, mate; but Sinclair occupied that position because he arrived there significantly before Forrest. That's actually quite interesting because they start off almost level and both run flat out. I don't know if Forrest would have got on the end of Griffiths' cross had Sinclair not been there. Perhaps he would but that's not what interests me. It's the intelligence factor.

To me it looks like Sinclair anticipates the break and Forrest reacts to it. When Forrest checks his run (and I agree with you that he was right to), there's already a significant gap between the two. Most of that gap is due to Forrest starting his run a fraction of a second later. These details make all the difference agains the better teams, especially in Europe.

I also thought Forrest has played very well the last two games BTW.

  15. Well checking his run was the right decision, so it's more likely that was what he was doing.

  16. Bear in mind Forrest had played 60 minutes more than Sinclair at this point, in a pretty intense game.

  17. Look at their starting position though as well mate. Sinclair starts centrally, and Forrest starts on the outside of him. Both players are quick, and Forrest can see that Sinclair is staying central. There is no need for Forrest to run across, otherwise it congests things. Sinclair will anticipate the break more so, because he was the one playing the pass and starting the counter attack. He already knows what he is going to do when he receives the ball.

  18. That first one is a fair point. I'm not sure about the second, though. I think good players anticipate things like that.

  19. Possibly, but I can understand why Sinclair was a fraction of a second quicker to react, as he started the move. In fact, pause it when Sinclair is about to play the pass, he is actually a yard or so in front of Forrest anyway.
