I'm afraid I believe he is just better than average. Look at the likes of Stan Petrov who was a top player 90% of the season chipping in with assists and goal ever few games, always commited and excellent at retaining possesion.

Stan in the footballing market cost a couple more million than Brown and hasnt been that noticable down south, Brown has a long way to go to be anywhere near as efective as Stan

You have to ask yourself how may times has he done something 'inspirational' since he game.

His few goals have come against pish and I cant remmeber him ever dominating a game, pinging passes around or playing a defence splitting pass.

He doesnt do any more than Hartley or Robson for me, who cost a fraction of the price.

I'm not saying the guys a bad player, I just dont think he's a great one.

Fair dos bout the Petrov statement. He's probably what we are missing right now.

But i still think people are looking for any reason to jump on the backs of most of our current line up, and Scott Brown is just getting into his stride. You have to see what he is trying to become and realise what he will become.

    Hes going to be good.

I'm confident that i will never eat those words.

Well let's have a go at all the other players as well that don't perform on these occasions.

You act as if exactly that hasn't already been done on every other player... including ones who've done far more on those occasions.

How many more of these 'other' players cost 4.3 million?

He never should have been valued at 4mil + that was the alledged EPL interest and their funny money that allowed that. Not his fault.

Im not saying hes shown enough to justify that (far from it) but I hold out hope that he will in time.

Just curious, would people be happy with his progression if he had cost 2m like Kevin Thomson?

Thats what he would have went for if he was sold in January with him.

true. he looked totally pish until he had been at Celtic for a couple of years. Brown is a far better player than Petrov was after 18 months.

Don't think Petrov and Brown can be compared at all. they are 2 very different kind of midfield players.

also the comparison between petrov's and brown's first season is unfair: petrov came to an other country at the age of 20. he had to learn the language, the culture, the spl etc. brown was a bit older and knows the spl and even language.

I think they're certainly similar enough to be compared. :97: Both box to box midfield players with great engines.

I fairness Petrov spend half that time stuck at Right back.

Petrov came from another country and couldn't speak a word of english. He left a * legend after several brilliant hun performances.

Brown is a hun who, like every one who's gone before, will have to convince the fans he's committed to the cause before they will accept im.

Sorry, he's done nothing to convince me yet.

His celebration after his Parkhead goal for hibs towards the end of 2004/05 when he gave it the full 'get it * up ye' treatment to the Lisbon Lions stand still sticks in my throat (check if u dont believe me). He's never shown that commitment to the hoops.

Until he puts in a decent huns performance, he'll always be a fake mercenary to me.

This Petrov v Brown issue is a compete joke. People are talking about when Petrov first came to Celtic...Would I be right in saying he was already the Bulgarian Captain of the U21s with a great deal of potential?

Anyhow, Scotty Brown is a destroyer with more pace than Lennon but doesn't yet have the composure of Lambert who would still make my Celtic dream team of my lifetime. He never gained this until he played at the top level which he achieved in his late 20s. Brown, imo will go on to better things than any if he keeps improving the way he is. FFS he's only 23 and already has been a major stand out in his national team.

Petrov was a great Celtic player and I was gutted to see him go and we've never replaced a good goal scoring midfielder but WGS plays a more attacking game with 2 wingers which would never have suited Stan Petrov so give Brown a break with his goal scoring attributes. Petrov didn't have to defend at the energy levels in which Brown did.

And as for the people who say he has a * shot, think of the goals Broony has scored with both right and left.
