See while we’re here, *’s a shot stopper at the end of the day? To me there is so much more to being a keeper than the ‘good with his feet v. shot stopper’ we hear about Bain and Gordon. This is a bit silly of me but anyway..

An outstretched tip over the bar for me is a tip over the bar.

Diving at someone’s feet is diving at someone’s feet.

Plucking out crosses is plucking out crosses

Is a shot stopper just confined to a shot which the keeper saves and holds onto and/or a save that he parries away or blocks/stops?? :52:

Would say shot stopping covers all saves but, for me i think it would also be a keepers ability to make a save which requires them to have fast reactions. Like Bains double save against Airdrie.

Gordon was at the root of a lot of what was wrong with our play, slow, casual, indecisive, inaccurate but on the other hand if you take Ibrox he made some amazing reflex saves, but his slackness can invite wave after wave of attack so he puts himself under that pressure..

My one criticism of Bain is a lot of shots seem to go through him, but for me I’d sacrifice that to have better rhythm and control of the game.. he’s quick in his decision making and will happily pass it to McGregor who builds everything good that we do.. Where as Gordon just doesn’t have the confidence in his passing to pick out a deep lying midfielder, where you need to be accurate.. usually launches it wide out the park or makes Forrest try and head the ball..

Bain every day for me and I’m glad the sometimes stubborn BR is hopefully realising he’s a better option. The test for Bain will be when we don’t have time and are pressed all over the park against better opposition, then he will need to be very accurate in possession as well as making important saves..

Domestically it should have been Bain a long time ago. We are so dominant that any difference there may be in shot stopping is more than compensated by recycling possession faster and more accurately. I am of the opinion that the jury is still out on whether Bain is good enough as a shot stopper to be our number 1 (I don't care what anyone says, Gordon was good at that), but we will know a lot more after Valencia.

One thing's for sure, Bain fully deserves his chance and we're all rooting for him to take it. I'd also say that multiple save at the weekend, while Gordon is also capable of that from the POV of his ability, showed a level of physical bravery that I have rarely if ever seen from Gordon.

You’re bang on here. I’d quibble over the shot stopper though, he could be unreal. He could also be * idiotic, especially when it comes to his near post.

The jury is definitely out on Bain, what I think is undisputible though, is he deserves a chance.

I feel far more secure with Bain there rather than Gordon, and you fan feel that in the fanbase, in the stadium and most importantly, in our defence.

I often watch replays of the hunskelpings under Brendan on YT and Gordon made some genuine World class saves in most of those games..some you would have forgotten about. He is an unbelievable shot stopper and capable of better saves than Bain. Even at Ibrox he pulled off half a dozen very very good saves.

Just a shame he is horrible with the ball at his feet.

Really happy for him that he's now got the chance of a run of games, Gordon's distribution was gettin far too sloppy, he needed dropped.

He can and has made phenomenal saves but he's past it for me..

His distribution is disgustingly bad and the fact he's so nonchalant with it...makes it even worse..

Bain is a smaller frame and only 6 foot which is concerning in the long run. How much better is he at shot stopping and commanding his box than Gordon? That remains to be seen but he's more than deserving of getting a run as he suits our play to a tee with his first class distribution and playing from the back..

He's our number 1 in my eye's now..

In the summer I'd like us to still go out and get a real top quality presence if we can with Bain fighting it out with him and Gordon and donkey De Vries gone..

He’s far better at commanding his box for me as well. He comes out to collext aggressively.

Doesn't mind punching either if need be..

He's so much better suited to us it's untrue. I'm still to be convinced if he's the answer going in to next season and beyond in terms of presence and if he's ever getting peppered....but he's an upgrade on Gordon for now at worst..

Mind Forster never saved a penalty until the hearts game when Wanyama scored, from then on he was unreal at saving them
