Aye it was, sure he called him out in front in the dressing room after a game.

Always liked Bain, was a spell when he came in initially he was actually very decent for us but deep down probably always knew he was never going to properly nail down the number 1 spot. Hope he goes somewhere where he can show what he can actually do rather than warm a bench and has a decent end to his career.

He done well enough for him to win the number 1 spot on a couple of occasions, Gordon got dropped deservedly so for him at a point. Same with Barkas.

But he wasn’t good enough to be our number 1, just enough a challenge to get his game when those infront of him slipped on the standards. And that’s why he was harshly judged by our fans a lot. We seen him more as the back up than we did someone like Zulaska who has a good reputation for us. He never forced himself into the main keeper to get judged on anything but a guy there to cover very sporadically.

Bain deserves credit for that. Top pro.

Why does this feel so sad and bittersweet.

Like it's great we are getting things moving in terms of the squad, but it feels strange seeing him finally go

Former Celtic goalkeeper Scott Bain has agreed to sign for Falkirk, STV Sport understands.

The 33-year-old has agreed terms on a one-year contract with the newly-promoted side as manager John McGlynn looks to strengthen his squad for their Premeirship return.

Bain is a free agent after agreeing an early exit from Celtic and now looks likely to have regular first-team football after a long spell as a reserve at the champions.

The goalkeeper started his career at Aberdeen and then impressed at Alloa before moving to Dundee in 2014.

His performances at Dundee caught the eye of Celtic, who initially signed him on a half-season loan deal as cover in 2018.

Bain went on to spend another seven seasons as a Celtic player, though he only made 78 first-team appearances across his time in Glasgow, with Craig Gordon, Joe Hart and Kasper Schmeichel among the goalkeepers who were ahead of him in the pecking order.

Falkirk Football Club is delighted to announce the signing of goalkeeper Scott Bain on a one-year deal, subject to SFA clearance.

Scott joins The Bairns following his departure from Celtic where he spent a successful seven years, winning seven Premiership titles, three Scottish Cups and four League Cups.

The 33-year-old becomes John McGlynn’s first signing of the summer, and comes with plenty of Premiership experience, having also spent four years at Dens Park, making 108 appearances for Dundee.

Paul Smith said of Scott signing:

“We’re delighted Scott has joined us here at Falkirk after he chose to come to the club over various other offers both north and south of the border. He is a goalkeeper who comes to us after seven years at Celtic, and in that time he has played in massive European games, Scottish international matches, and at the highest level in Scotland, so he comes to the club with a wealth of experience.

“He is really good with the ball at his feet, and his style of play perfectly suits the play-style and ethos that we have at Falkirk. He’ll fit in really well with Nicky, Jamie, and Owen, and I’m sure all three will learn from the vast experience that Scott has. We look forward to working with him in the coming season.”

    Scott added:

“It’s great to be here. The club is very well run and it’s a really great set-up. It’s full of good people, and that’s a part of the reason I wanted to come here.

“I think I can come in and help a bit in terms of experience with the league and with the team’s style of play. I’m really looking forward to working with the squad and the management team. The boys have done an incredible job over the last two years and hopefully I can help this season to be an other successful one for the club and the fans.”

Don't think he's quite good enough for the top flight at this point but good luck to him..

He is only 33. I honestly thought he was much older than that, but clearly wants to be playing and not spend his entire career on the bench, so good luck to him, I guess. Who knows if he can be good enough at Premiership level, but I guess he wants to find out if he is as well, and clearly is never going to get that chance, being 3rd choice at Celtic.

It also then allows for an academy GK, such as Tobi Oluwayemi (who played 30-odd games for Dunfermline on loan last season) to be the 3rd choice, if that is the plan - but as far as I know his contract is set to run out this summer also, so could be interesting to see if there has been an extension etc

Doohan is coming in as 3rd choice. Oluwayemi will be away in the summer on a permanent I’d imagine.

I have no idea, but really, how often does a 3rd choice 'keeper get called upon? Apart from a one off here or there, the last time I can think of a 3rd choice GK making any sort of real impression for us was David Marshall during MO'N era, who was behind Douglas & Hedman. But the point being an academy guy (Oluwayemi is 22 now) helps with the graduate & homegrown quota for Europe also. But I was only using him as an example, as there may well be other young guys at the Academy also that could potentially fill that No. 3 slot.

Yep, that slipped my mind, but works as well for the same reasoning as I previously stated. :50:
