Other transfer targets in other positions have no relevance to this signing...

We've taken an opportunity to sign a good young Scottish playmaker for peanuts, it's a no brainer as far as I'm concerned.

Petrov's number, had it on the back of many a top myself, if he does half as well he'll be good.

It's more the fact that this signing seems to have managed to cloud the bigger issue, which is that our squad needs strengthening in areas other than midfield, and as yet that hasn't happened.

We're going down exactly the same route we did last season, when we didn't make the moves required until we'd been beaten by Maribor (a team, that much like Malmo, we expected to get past), at which point we signed Wakaso, Šćepović & Guidetti.

    All too late, of course.

We've signed a decent squad player, I get that. I'm not necessarily against that either, mainly because we've spent a pittance on a player who even if he doesn't become a first team regular carries little risk.

What I'm concerned with is that unlike last season when our fans were up in arms about the lack of signings heading into the qualifiers, this season those concerns have largely been forgotten about simply because we've been given the chance to laugh at Sevco.

What I'm saying is that I wouldn't be surprised in the least if we go with an unfit Ciftci up front against Malmo and we don't get the goals we need to take to Sweden.

If that happens, I'd not be surprised in the slightest if we lose by a goal over there and go out.

In light of how we've looked against Kilmarnock and Qarabağ you disagree?

I don't think it's for the want of trying that we haven't signed a 'European class' striker yet. It's very difficult for us to sign these kind of players given the league we're in and the financial constraints we have. Look at the situation with Guidetti, he was an average blowhard yet he tried to hold us to ransom.

Either way I don't think it has any relevance to this signing. Rest assured if we get papped out by Malmo, all * will break loose. Allan or no Allan.

Well, yes. Considering we beat Quarabg and qualified, and losing two points against Killie wasn't good, but it's hardly over-concerning.

Unbeaten this season, so we are.......
