Yep , people instantly think he " wont take us to the next level in Europe " because he is scottish , or has been playing at Hibs . He has all the attributes to be a great midfielder , and become part of a team that will compete in Europe .

For those who are in love.....
You can only judge MacKay Steven on his European games, the 2 of them. His tracking back and desire was first class, his upper body strength is surprisingly really good and he was a great outlet against inter both home and away, causing all sorts of problems to there defence. He was without doubt our best player in Milan before he paid the price of Virgil getting terribly sent off..

I can't wait actually, unleashing MacKay Steven in to the qualifiers after he and Armstrong get a pre season under there belts and are fully settled in and up to speed here..

I like the way he doesn't always pick the obvious pass. He sees things other players don't. He's clearly an intelligent player. Everything else can be coached.

I think there's definitely an element of that. If we were linked with a player of his ability in the Allsvenskan or Tippeligaen for £500,000, we'd be falling over ourselves.

Not too bothered about this one, little risk and has the potential to get better but wont lose sleep if he doesnt sign. Think he'll sign for them though.

I think Mackay-Steven has made a decent start to his Celtic career, but from what I've seen overall I'm not convinced he's what Celtic need to improve in Europe. Although I hope I'm wrong.

As for your other point, I completely agree, that's the strategy Celtic have to follow. However, I don't know why we can't spend money to 'consistently sign players that're as good as the top players at the likes of Red Salzburg or Ajax' when Celtic have been selling their best players over the last few seasons for handsome transfer fees, and when we're told that money will be invested back into the playing squad.

I think taking into account the fact that Scott Allan is playing in the second tier of what is essentially a glorified pub league, coupled with the fact that whenever I've seen him he's looked slightly better (but never truly outshone) the dross that plays in that league, is as good a reason as any to be reluctant to his potential signing! I certainly don't think he could be compared to a guy who has just left Man City who had reportedly offered him a new deal.

Did you not watch the two hun play off games then ? Was absolutely head and shoulders above anyone on the park . Pretty much dictated the game on his own and put chance after chance on a plate for that cummings and that Malonga .

Can't hurt taking a gamble if it won't cost too much as they are our feeder club after all. :celt_2:

They gave us Broony and Collins but they also gave us Killen and Riordan. Could work out either way.

He's a good championship player. If he comes to the SPL and continues to outshine the rest then we'd buy. Not good enough for Celtic.

If Scott Allan can be bought for around 500k, we'd be a bit daft not to.
