Scott Allan

Discussion in 'Ex Players' started by Officer Doofy, May 28, 2015.

  1. You rate a guy who's hardly kicked a ball for us above two guys who've been playing regular and a young prospect who's never even put on the shirt yet?

  2. Armstrong has been playing regularly bad for us
Mcgregor has had some good moments but has been poor a fair bit too
Christie hasn't pulled on a shirt yet but he has been playing regular first team football in this country for a while so he is allowed to have an opinion on him .
Allan has shown his class in glimpses in a Celtic shirt and i have seen enough of him here and at Hibs to agree with the posters comment .

  3. He's also shown some real schoolboy errors during his time here, which kinds of adds up when you consider what he's managed to accomplish in his career thus far.

  4. He's been really good when he has come on , hence why alot of the fans are excited by him and calling for him to start . Guy has bags of quality , can not wait for him to get a run in the team . Will be assisting the thumb left right and centre.

  5. Aye, but he's also made some errors (one of which cost us a goal in a Europa League match with Ajax), so he's far from the saviour that a lot of our fans seem to believe he is in my opinion.

I'll tell you what though, I'm really * bemused at this seeming urge to replace McGregor with him.

Callum McGregor is 22 years old and has been progressing really nicely this season in my opinion. Is he going to be immense every game? Of course not, but I doubt Allan would be either.

One player is 25 years old and has bounced around a number of clubs without much success, whilst the other is still only 22 years old and is getting better and better with every passing month he plays regularly.

  6. I agree with you mate. I see a lot of promise in McGregor. He's proving to be a very effective player for us. I don't get why he has so many detractors

  7. He get's a bit of stick because he's seen as part of what most people deem to be a "*" Celtic team.

There's this mental blind belief that anyone who isn't playing regularly is the key to turning things around.

Scott Allan, Ryan Christie, Anthony Stokes. All names that are constantly touted as being criminally underused, as though they're the answer to all of our problems.

  8. I know. The "outrage" expressed by some about Stokes loan deal was hilarious. I quite like Stokes but he has never been anything but the second choice striker during his entire spell here. To loan out someone who isn't getting a game, or even close to getting a game, makes perfect sense to me.

I think Allan and Christie are fine additions to the squad. Along with McGregor, Henderson, Armstrong and Tierney, we have a good nucleus of exciting young Scottish talent

  9. What has he had though, two starts?

He can't be judged until he gets a couple of starts under his belt..

  10. That's exactly my point. Plenty are judging him on a couple of cameo appearances, and deciding that he's amazing.

People demand he's starting, but surely his position is the one Rogic plays, and there's no way he's being dropped on current form. Ronny sees him every single day, if he's not starting him in other positions he believes that he's not capable of playing there.

  11. Part of the reason is the rangers effect, many want him to be really good because they also wanted him. Lots won't admit it but its part of the reason there is this hype around him which for the most part is unsubstantiated.

  12. Don't think it's the Rangers effect at all.

I rate him because I've seen him play numerous times over a number of years. Admittedly not at the same level as Celtic, hence the reason I'm relaxed about the fact he's being broken in to the first team gently.

  13. That's a good point, the Rangers effect is an issue, but I also think that people are basically looking at our side as is and have decided it's *, and that any player who isn't getting games is a possible game-changer.

    Stokes, Allan, Christie etc.

  14. Agree, it works both ways...

We won't find out unless he starts a couple though..

Rogic was excellent last night though, he'll need to really want it to make it with us, I feel.

  15. Who gives a * about the Hiuns? Seriously man.

It's quite simple, Allan looks a creatove player with a good final ball. People like * like that.

  16. Daibhi to come in here and preach to us all that Allan can't cut it, in 5,4,3,2,1........

  17. He's not been able to make the break through when we were suffering from injuries in that area of the field, so he'll likely not make much difference when those regular players are back.

He's decent enough, and by no means a complete waste like Ciftci in my opinion. He's just going to have to accept that he's a bit-part player by the looks of it.

  18. Seems to me there has always been someone fit in the CAM role this season..

    What players do you mean?

  19. I'm more meaning that if Allan was looking as good as we seem to think he does, the manager would maybe have looked to shift some players around in midfield to accommodate him and cover the injuries, but he didn't.

He'll be an impact player I think, at best.

Plenty of *. did you not read the thread when we were looking to sign him initially?
