Heard booing when he walked out, wasn't sure where from. Then when the applause stopped and he spoke the idiots booed again. Got a bit of stick from everyone around and rightly so, then had an argument which I couldn't really here with them trying to justify themselves (did hear someone say something about a "* hun" though)

the lad may have worn a rangers top as a boy.. but he probably didn't buy it. Xmas present, birthday gift from uncle etc.

he grew up wanting to play for rangers :38:
but that club died :50: :bbpd:

A new club called Sevco wanted to buy him but lowballed his club :97:
    three times :38:

the team he supported as a boy was no longer around :54:

So he chose to sign for the biggest and best supported club in Scotland :celt_2:

he did not have a good time down south but recently stated he wants to stay in Scotland so maybe he just didn't like down south or was a bit homesick. i hope he can raise his game and find consistency with us. Best of luck to the bhoy

i hope he wears a magic hat just to wind up the zombies

I think we're more likely to hold on to homegrown players 3/4 years down the line once they've developed into quality players, that way we won't be stuck in a rebuilding phase every 2/3 seasons if we keep selling foreign players to teams in bigger leagues. It's important that we get out of that cycle so we can become a good Champions League team again.

We could rely on Champions League money and not need to sell players unless some sort of crazy money is on the table, like £20million for Van Dijk instead of £12m.

  5. Don't know if it has been mentioned yet (I couldn't be arsed going through the millions of comments) but does anyone know what his wages will be?

Good point. While the foreign lads are moved on for a bigger fee, the Scottish lads will likely peak at this level meaning they can form the core of the team and provide some consistency long term.

We won't find a Biton or Wanyama every season, so some stability in the form of solid SPL players who can put in a competent performance in Europe while being supplemented by more talented foreign players is a must.

Fs maybe some of them should read up on Jock ,Kenny dal before booing any *

    Never heard any booing whatsoever.

In fact, it was almost like pantomime cheering from thr entire stadium.

The facts don't lie. He flopped down south, failing to make any impact with clubs such as MK Dons and Birmingham.

I could be wrong and there could have been mitigating circumstances causing him to fail, but going on the facts he isn't the pedigree that I thought we'd be looking at.

If someone had told me five years ago that our fans would be over the moon after the club spent less than half a million quid on a player from the Scottish 2nd tier and that we'd be heading into our final Champions League qualifier with a choice of a former Dundee United or Hibs striker leading the line I'd have laughed in their face and pointed them in the direction of the nearest doctors.

Our transfer activity this season has consisted of an unproven prospect from Manchester City who's bounced around the likes of Bolton on loan before we signed him, a 19 year old prospect who's pro football career consisted of a handful of appearances for Bolton before we signed him, a 29 year old reserve goalkeeper, a striker from Dundee United who seems to have anger issues, and a 24 year old guy who flopped for the most part down south before looking good in the 2nd tier of Scottish football.

Now, I'm all for signing guys who may turn out to be decent, but when our entire summer consists of signing these types?

The contrast between this time last season and now is startling. Last season we all wanted Lawwell's head on a stick, and some were claiming Deila didn't have a clue, whilst this season we're "looking good" and the main point of discussion is "stealing" a signing from Sevco.

On top of that we've managed to convince ourselves that Allan isn't really a 24 year old guy who's played for six clubs already and flopped with three of them, but is actually a "prospect" and a "talent" who can improve our team.

So, what you're saying is that the idea is rather than buying top prospects & players from abroad or down south like Van Dijk, Wanyama, Hooper, Forster and Ki who can do us a turn for a few years and then be shifted on at a profit we should go for homegrown players instead that will not attract anything like the attention of those players simply so we can keep hold of them?

How does that line of thinking result in us becoming a good Champions League team? :97:

There was one guy who was sitting a few rows behind me who was hurling a lot of abuse at Allan. Don't really know what he was saying because so many others were cheering him.

I think perhaps he is suggesting that these type of players should provide the core of the squad. And I don't think he's wrong.

I think he's got goals from midfield and better delivery from the right than GMS and Forrest. He's someone who always looks to hit the striker as soon as he can. For me, sometimes that's a bit lacking, or is sacrificed for a safer passage to goal.
If you've got a Scepovic in the side, then you maybe want to try and use that height in the box. Some games you maybe just want someone who only needs to create a yard of space to get the ball whipped in, or slipped in down the side. I've got a feeling he'll get goals too. Europe, we'll need to see. It's a big step up in terms of pressure, but Malmo is a game i'm sure he could handle after he's been here a few months. Sit him next to Armstrong or Brown and it should be good news for the strikers. Sometimes you just want someone who gets on the ball, and the first instinct is to find the striker.

You want the core of our squad to consist of players that aren't good enough to draw interest from clubs with more money to spend than us?

So, what's the answer? Have one or two Virgil-esque players surrounded by guys signed from the Championship and smaller Scottish sides?
