Omer Damari you're talking about. Aye we could have signed him. Obviously seen Pukki as the better option. But it's worth noting that we did actually qualify that year and most people were excited about Pukki.

There is the issue of when a player REALLY stands out for a smaller team. More often than not teams from better leagues will be in for them. We're not insignificant. But our league is, quality wise and financially. Players see teams like * Norwich or Watford as a bigger draw than us. They teams may not have a better reputation. But theu have the money and have the higher quality league. That's what really matters to players. Money and league.

I think we have to work in a certain 'bracket' in terms of fees/ wages and most signings of the type were talking about sometimes have other options and can afford to wait to see if we qualify etc, some might settle for EL though, who knows, obviously everyone wants CL...isn't it like the chicken and egg thing? If I'm wrong disregard that, a bit baked...:smiley-laughing002:

But remember we got Boyata and Jan Hammer (Janko) earlier and they are surely good enough to help us qualify, Ciftci will get better too and might be able to do it in Europe, but that's the point I think some of you are making,ma striker to score us into the big time...as it were...I suppose that's probably the hardest type of player to find for a club in our situation atm.

Personally I'd love to have Tony Watt back, especially since his attitude seems to have improved and he seems to just get better in terms of his game, doing really well for Charlton...

Anyway, I'm confident guys, call it fools...confidence or whatever but I think our bhoys, in full flow, can wipe the floor with Molde, at home at least; all we need to do on Wed is not concede, which I'm reasonably confident (hopefull) of. :celt_2:

If you didn't laugh, you'd cry amirite? :50:

Still 15/20k below capacity and the lads signing was nowt to do with that.

Did you see how good Stuart Armstrong was today?

Yeah I would love us to sign James Rodriguez but it isnt happening.

40000 might sound * hot when rated throughout Europe but for the last 2 decades its a distinctly average crowd for us.

Totally agree on that point there, there is absolutely no * way that kind of * should be happening. If we can get a guy, there should be no * around from our end, just go and get him.

Also the last players we signed who has done anything of note in European competition were Derk Boerrigter and Teemu Pukki.

Aye but if we signed him instead and he didn't cut it everycunt would be saying, "why are we rushing in to buy these Israeli no-marks when we could've held out for that lad from Shalke, he's been scoring goals for them and they're a team much closer to our level."

It's not just a case of just signing a player from a better team or a better league meaning they'll do better for us, otherwise we'd have a front 3 of Boeriggter, Miku, and Lassad Nouioui. Meanwhile we'd be laughing at the thought of signing Wanyama fae some made up team called Germinal Beerschot. Gary Hooper would be getting told to stay in Scunthorpe, and Nir Bitton would have to find himself a new trade as FC Ashdod wasn't good enough for us.

I think what Ronny is trying to do is to build a team out of the best homegrown players he can find, complimented with some top quality foreigners. That way the players have that bond and understanding of growing up in the same environment actually wanting to play in Scottish Football, rather than years gone buy of filling the team up with overpaid foreigners who learned about Celtic by reading the wiki page on the plane over.

I'm excited about it, because its a bold new strategy which has already put us two matches from the group stages, which is the most we'd could ever really hope from any of our previous tactics anyway. :50:

When we started out this buy low sell high adventure I imagined us slowly and steadily buying players with a bit more pedigree as we moved up the levels.

You know, 1 or 2 mill, sell for 8

    2/3 mill sell for 10

3/4 yadda you get the point.

We are standing still though, going backwards even.

I trust Ronny but it seems to me like we are building for something 3 years away when in reality it wont ever come unless we qualify for the CL.

I don't want us to go bust, I just want some semblance of ambition.

Wednesday is going to be * nerve shredding.

It's been said a million times but it's obviously hard to attract these better quality players before the qualifiers have ended without that guarantee of CL football. It's not just us taking the risk when spunking money on them but the player is as well, career wise.

"Come to us, you still have a two legged qualifier to play which we might get tanned in so you might just end up playing in the pishy SPL for the rest of the season but..still..come to us"

They will want guarantees. An example is this * rumour that's going about, the supposed 'mystery' striker will only sign if we reach the groups. Could be * but I imagine the scenario to be pretty accurate.

It's our only attractive proposition right now and even then it's not guaranteed.:56:

I do agree with all that.

There must be decent EL level players out there in not so great leagues who would jump at the chance to come to us though.

I refuse to believe there isn't one player out there right now very receptive to coming here but we wont pull the trigger until we know we are in the CL... And even then.

I also agree with what you said there.

I've posted a * tonne of players in that transfer rumours section over the years (not alone either) and many are not just 'computer game' suggestions as the cliché goes...who are well within our reach and have proven records in lesser leagues around Europe.

Unfortunately I'm not John Park and my suggestions will forever be lost in time.
