Its a shame that religion is brought into everything and i agree it shouldnt be anywere near football just like sectarian songs and songs about paramilitary groups from either side said all along this * has no place in football

I dare say that 99.9% of refs that have previous derby experience are prods. That's the norm in Scotland though hence the reason why it was never mentioned.

I taught Willie Collum and he was never a Celtic fan. Don't think he supported anybody to be fair. Like all referees he became a ref because he was * at fitba. He's a single minded guy and he'll apply the rules fairly. I agree though that all this * about him being catholic is totally irrelevant.

He's telling the truth, that's what. Deny it if you wish but it's spot on.

Don't know why you are all worried, this is what happens at hun games and will not be surprised if we get a player sent off, or offside goal lost, penalty, or one given to the sons of Sxxxx, but for all the media cameras it would need to be blatant in our part.

I don't want to be a naysayer, but did anyone who commented here actually read the original source article? I did. It basically has that one little trope about his teaching and his the cross on his whistle at the very end of the article. I find getting bent out of shape over that, especially to the point of claiming holocaust style treatment, is a small reach.

As a student of Scottish history and philosophy, I know there is still a lot of bigotry, but I think it does everyone a disservice to try and create it out of nothing. Let's just focus on the game and hope that Collum actually calls a decent game.

i don't care what religion the referee is..* he can even wear a pink tutu skirt.

all i hope is that he makes decisions in a professional manner, and is impartial.

Yeah I read the article and have to agree with you. The article at no point tries to say that Collum will be 'Celtic Minded' or biased in anyway. I think people have looked at the OP comments and jumped on the bandwagon.I did myself until I read the article.

The comments about him being an RE teacher are more centerd around the fact that a lot of the fans at the game will be showing genuine hatred for each other based on Religion, where as Willie Collum teaches the true meaning of Religions is not hatred. Thats my opinion anyway.

I also think the bit at the end was not a slight on him either. I think that its just the journalist showing that he has had problems in the past with people complaining of potential biased.

Sometimes I think the people that write on here could definetley get a job on the Sun or Record Headline writing teams!

These are quotes from the article.

This on its own is fair enough as it states the point that what he does and how it should have no bearing to his abilities on how to ref the game.

To mention it again, why would this be, encase we missed it the first time or to reassure the rangers fans what he does.

This again, is put into another sentence to make it sounds as if it belongs when really it is another point to let everyone know what he it. A * B*****D (imho)

Here he goes again; I think I get what is going on here.

Am I a bigot for thinking to negatively or does anyone think that the points above are all above board.

What's New? Scotland on the whole is an anti catholic country and that is one of the reasons I left in the earl seventies. Get out or get used to it, bigotory is always just below the surface and it was never more obvious in the media during the Neil Lennon sending off a few years ago. Its ugly, unnacceptable but unfortunately will always be there

Arguably he was fair today - he gave that penalty but left Stokes on the pitch. Still, atheist superiority!
