Looked promising for Hearts, can't say the same for Scotland. Jury's still out, maybe my opinion of him will improve if we beat Norway.
P.S - celticdaftdan, we beat Iceland :50: -
It's too early to say. At the time of his appointment I believed it to be correct rather than Souness, Davies, McGhee etc however I haven't been impressed one bit with the start he has made.
I'd just like to add that the only available Scottish coaches I'd have picked ahead of him would have been Craig Levein and Kenny Dalglish.
His tactics against a really poor Macedonia team were *. We should have been on top of them from the whistle and you could see 20 mins into the game that we didn't need a holding midfielder which happened to be Hartley. This proved to be the case in the 2nd half when we bombarded their goal and should have had a penalty when Commons replaced him.
I thought we were very lucky in Iceland as well. If we hadn't scored from a corner and Iceland had taken one of their 1st half chances, it would have been a different game. How we started that game without a striker I'll never know.
What I would say on his behalf so far is that he's getting a real raw deal off the papers in this country. They were gunning for him before a ball was kicked because we didn't win any friendlies when most of the Rangers players were pulling out plus we had several injuries meaning we had to play the likes of Gavin Rae.
Oh aye and there was no need for all the Lee McCulloch crap and the timing of his retirement leaking out was disgraceful.
The SFA also screwed things up by settling for a tough start in the heat of Macedonia when a home game against the same side or an Iceland would have been much more beneficial in our opening two games.
After all that I'm still for George Burley and I really hope it works out for us tomorrow against Norway a team which we should be beating tbh. But again losing Hutton, Ferguson, Thomson, Miller, McNaughton, Commons and McManus doesn't make life any easier.

I will keep it simple, i think he is a very good, honest manager. He is the right man for the job at the moment, his time at hearts would have helped him considerably to prepare for this job.

i dont like him
beleive it or not i would prefer big eck or walter -
He should be given the same time and opportunities as the previous managers.
-
Exactly.
I wonder why the media went so easy on "Walter" after the Belarus embarressing home defeat. I don't remember a situation after that where if we lost the next game he was sacked. -
seems a gent. Will judge him after a few more games.
-
Hard to imagine Smith or McLeish getting similiar stick. -

So far he's caused me to be cautious.
I'll reserve any judgement of his management just now because I just want to back him at the moment and hope that he'll lead us to the World Cup.
I hate the way he talks though. It sounds like he has gravel in his mouth when he does. -
Yeah i was thinking he sounded abit werid the other day.. lol -

Burley did a good job at Hearts (and at Ipswich). And * only knows what he was working against at Tynecastle. He's definitely got something about him. But international football is different to the game at club level. Weeks and weeks without any contact wi' the players... It doesn't suit some people.
I dunno. Early signs aren't that promising. Too soon to judge though. I hope he does well. I hope we skelp Norway tomorrow. We'll only really know how good he is by the end of the qualifying campaign. -
I'll give you my opinion this time tomorrow ....
-
-
The game tomorrow is massive for him, and if they win, he should be given every encouragement.
Personally, I hate the *, but personal feelings cannot dictate results. -
What do you make of his team ....
