Just a reminder to any of the Irish lads starting/going back to college on grants. Get your Grant applications and renewals sent to SUSI asap

Know a few lads that went on holiday early and had trouble providing the documents they need and some that submitted very late had payments delayed because their applications weren't done before college started so it's worth the few minutes of your time :50:

I'm back for third and final year of my degree Monday week, will hopefully only have one more year after that which will be a teaching course, if I dont get it first time round I'll do a masters and then the teaching course.

Bit worrying that I could be a qualified teacher in about 2 years tbh. I've done literally * all the last two years but the next two or three will be tough.

I'm in 5 days a week, but it's not quite 30 hours, 9-5 on a thursday right enough. it gets like that in 4th year though. Heavy going stuff.

It's not like th content is easy either.

Nah secondary, would have done Primary but I hated Irish in school and you need to be decent at it for primary teaching.

    Ah, right.

Just wondering because I seriously considered primary teaching as an option for a while, was set on doing it actually then had a change of heart.

Best of luck teaching in a secondary school, it was a thankless task for most of my teachers:smiley-laughing002:

Wouldn't be for me at all but you'll walk into a job with a degree in it I'd imagine.

My course is only Mon-Thurs for the first semester this year and is only 12-14 hours. I don't even go to the majority of the lectures as there is no real need to, Im doing English and Geography and most of the work is in reading and the lecturers put the notes up online anyway. Usually end up only being in 3-4 hours worth of classes a week which is ridiculous really.

I get threatened with the sack if I don't attend 80% of classes :smiley-laughing002:

The only positive of people in classes so often is that it prepares you for working 40 hours+ a week. Not that it's much conselation :smiley-laughing002:

I'm envious of people who get alot more free time, but tbh I've not had any serious thoughts of packing it in, so I must enjoy it a bit :smiley-laughing002:

What'll you do after your degree?

Yeah I can't say I'm particularly passionate about the idea of teaching, the only other thing I could really have done in uni was some sort of business degree but I have zero interest in that really even if there is probably more jobs in than than teaching. I'd probably still consider going back and doing primary teaching in the future but it would mean I'd have to repeat my Irish Leaving certificate and right now I cannot be * with that.

My first bit of experience that had anything to do with teaching was supervising a student from a rough part of Dublin for his Junior Cert exams and I can only imagine what it'd be like looking after 30 students like him :smiley-laughing002:

Still not 100 percent on what I want to do.

IF I manage to get this degree alot of graduates go on to work within Glasgow City Council and other local authorities around the area but being from outside Glesga and having no interest in councils, I have no intentions of that:smiley-laughing002:

Going forward, even now, most major companies/businesses whatever need environmental sections or advice, so I'd imagine I won't have loads of trouble finding something.

My original plan was to go into the energy industry, wind or hydro-electric, even oil if there are any * jobs left in 3 years time:smiley-laughing002:

    * knows, would be my short answer right now. Alot of people I know of who are older than me have ended up doing something totally different from what their degree qualifies them to do. I think you find that, often.
