I went through a stage like that during the first semester. Have you not got coursework or * that you need to catch up on?

I'm really finding it hard to concentrate right now in any classes. A 3 hour lecture today on fire safety, I mean what the *.

Still managed to complete any coursework I've had so far but 5 going on 6 months in and I've never came home and looked at my notes, unless I was cramming for a report or something. Course is not what I imagined.

  10. I'm required to have 80% attendence or I get chucked out.

We've never actually been told what we need to keep above in terms of attendance, can't imagine it's that high otherwise I'd be long gone.

I know I need to go a certain amount otherwise my SAAS comes into jeopardy :56:

Only got two 2 hour lectures per week. Went to three in September (left one halfway through as I was hungover) and haven't been since. :icon_mrgreen:

Gonna have to do a shitload this semester to catch up and hang onto a 2:1 though. Got December's exam results back today, B1 and B2 so happy with that as I thought I properly * up the second one.

I have my first presentation tomorrow for college, has anyone got any general tips?

It's with a group and Im only expected to talk for 2 mins or so so it shouldn't be too bad but im not really used to having to do stuff like this and noticed people in here have had to do them a fair bit.

Try to have as much eye contact as possible with the class and don't have a completely monotone voice, maybe some hand expressions with being over the top. Nothing worse than sitting listening to someone read from a bit of paper and not looking at you.

I assume you have a powerpoint to go with it, sounds daft but keep the bulletpoints/info short and then go into more detail yourself, I've sat through presentations with people telling me what is on the screen, it's better to expand on this as it makes you look as if you know what you're talking about. Also maybe add in a picture if appropriate

It's a common part of the way I have been assessed in my first year at Uni so far. Without trying to sound big headed, I've been told I'm quite good at them:56: (that does sound big headed) Done alot at school as well and had a few to prepare for interviews in the past.

Basically I always do a few things:

-Eye contact with the audience you are presenting to. If you are just reading off a sheet folk will get bored and tend not to listen, I know I do. Your voice obviously doesn't project as well either.

-If you do have notes, try and just put down bullet points or key words so that with one quick glance you will know what it's all about.

-One thing that I do myself is just imagine that everyone else is in the same position, which they are. If you are * yourself chances are they are as well, and there is going to be someone worse than you. Sounds harsh but it helps me.:smiley-laughing002:

    - I also make alot of hand gestures trying to act like I know what I'm talking about, might look like a * at times but makes you look more confident:smiley-laughing002:

Sound lads that's good advice :50:

My part of the presentation is basically just 4 slides with 2/3 bullet points on each, which are about 3/4 sentences and I have about 3 or 4 points that ill be able to expand on myself. I reckon that's enough considering there's four in my group and we have 10 mins to do the presentation?

Slightly nervous for it tbh but at the same time sort of looking forward to getting a bit of experience in doing it, going to need it..

If your only talking for 2 mins that is plenty. That's exactly how most of my presentations have been set out as well, longest I've had to talk so far is 5mins but you'd be surprised how quick that goes and how much * you can ramble out once you are up there.

Once you have done a few of them and the folk in the class have seen each other do it, I find it alot easier.

Nerves will always really be there, unless you are a natural public speaker which not many are!

    What is the presentation on?
