AS Levels are the Higher equivalent.

A Levels are slightly harder than Highers, but not as hard as Advanced Highers.

I took it last year, got a C in the exam. Although A in the prelim, so the appeal came to a B overall.

But I heard the exam was pretty bad. One of the smartest girls I know had applied to Edinburgh Uni and only needed a B in it to get in. Didn't get it. Must've been a stinker of an exam. Either that or she was on the lash the night before.

I am moving between the tax and finance department at the moment, doing some audit work and control testing, nothing too important so i don't * it up! :smiley-laughing002:

Also helping with some presentations and research on some current topical tax issues like offshore employment intermediaries.

I have been told they are more likely to hire someone they have already worked with and know so my 6 weeks here will do me no harm at all if i apply in the future.

Yes i do, i chose it because of its relevance to what i want to do in my career and because i have heard its got a great reputation for its success rate in terms of employability.

No doubt it will be difficult and expensive! But hopefully worth the end result.

My teacher was the same up until 5th year when he 'retired', coincidentally after only 2 of his Higher pupils got higher than a C in the exam:rolleyes:

New teacher came in and she changed everything completely, I done terrible in my first year of sitting the Higher but then in my re-sit year (this year) I got an A. Couldn't believe it, all I really wanted/expected was B.

Anyone any idea what is the easiest between Philosophy, sociology, Phsychology and anthropology? Im doing an Arts course and have to pick three subjects, my first two are English and History then I want one thats as easy as possible just to pass for this year, because Ill be dropping it next year.

The easiest will be the one you find most interesting, because the reading will seem less of a chore. So pick the one which interests you the most and do that I'd say.

Ive only had 30 minute talks on each subject and I have to choose tomorrow, but I will be able to sit in on other lectures and change my mind within a month, so I might have a better indication of what im most interested in then.

Was just wondering if anyone on here done any of them and found them particularly straight forward/interesting.

I did psychology in first year, its pretty easy, in fact my exam at the end of the year was multiple choice, got 17/20 was amazed. Still interesting though.

Anthropology is fascinating! You will look at things differently after having studied it. Although you could say the same about philosophy and psychology.
The most 'straight forward' will probably be sociology, but also (to me, at least) the least interesting.
Check out the reading lists for each course. Have a look at a book off the list in the library tomorrow before you have to make your choice, and see what piques your interest.
For me it would be anthropology or philosophy.

If you turn up every week and get your essays in on time, it is almost certain you will pass any Arts subject in 1st year. I did History, Philosophy and Psychology in my first year and dropped Psychology in 2nd year.

Cheers lads. I actually got the impression sociology would be relatively easy but boring just from the talk today, and that anthropology would be the most interesting, but I dont know really.

I think I might go for anthropology tomorrow and go to lectures for psychology and philosophy for atleast a week or two and if im not enjoying anthropology Ill switch.

I studied Anthro and absolutely loved it. I'll be enrolling in my Masters next year and it's more practical than you'd think - if you specialize in things like agriculture or medicine then you can get jobs with the UN, Foreign Ministry, things like that.
