If his level is good enough for WGS, then its got to be good enough for Celtic... end of story I would think

Because Riordan isnt good enough, his attitude towards fighting for a place leaves alot to be desired. Maybe GS likes players like McGeady, when his was dropped for games on end, who took onboard that his current level wasnt good enough and went about improving his game significantly. Riordan thinks he's good enough as it is, which he isnt and GS is putting him in his place, the bench, which he doesnt like. If thats his attitude, he can leave Celtic, you fight hard or go.

When was the last time he scored 30 in a season. I am a big Solskjaer fan, i never doubted his goal scoring prowess....but the fact is he was happy to sit on his behind knowing he had little chance of regular first team football at Man U. this past number of seasons. By the way i should have wrote prolonged his playing career not 'furthered' it.

Everyone knows he scored THAT goal in the CL final.....That's not the point. You stated that Deeks should take a leaf out of his book alluding to the fact he should be content to sit on the bench and say nothing. OGS had already had a decent run at Man United before injury left him on the bench, he had tasted first team football on a regular basis with United and had his share of medals so his career is at a very different stage from Deeks career. I doubt if Soljaer would have been content to sit on the bench without a whimper had been bought by Celtic and not Man United and then hardly had a run out.

My point being those were two completely different situations, your comparing Deeks situation to Soljaer's was wrong in my opinion.

Of course he is revered by United fans and rightly so, he has had a great career with them and enjoyed success ON the park.

OGS didnt play every game when he first joined Man United, he earned his starts

I think you're in the minority if you think Riordan is not good enough for Celtic. Also McGeady has not IMO improved that much.

It's a personal thing between WGS and Riordan not a footballing thing.

I am not questioning his achievements mate he has done a lot in football. I am questioning Dempsey comparing his situation to that of Deeks. Soljaer had a decent run with Man United before becoming an almost constant fixture on the bench. Riorden has had very few chances or a decent run in the side to show his true worth. Unlike Soljaer at Man United. Two very different players two very different sets of circumstances.

From what i have seen of Deeks when he has come on he has earned his....Strachan himself said he was the best natural goal scorer at the club. You are deluding yourself if you think Strachan's refusal to give the boy a consistent run is down to the fact he doesn't think him good enough. There is more to it than that. In the case of Riordan i think Wee Gordon is cutting his nose off to spite his face.

Im not talking about his finishing ability, when I refer to him not being good enough, I'm referring to his attitude.

I'm comparing Solkjaers attitude to Deeks attitude, in relation to two players that could start at clubs elsewhere, but being on the bench at their current. Your gone off on a tangent.

Its his attitude that I refered to all the time as the reason he isnt good enough, not his ability. He hasnt improved anything about his game since coming here. Thats alot down to attitude, he rather play at Leicester because of starting than playing at a high level.

McGeady does alot more on the field and has a far better physique and fitness, than before Strachan arrived at CP. Thats down to a good attitude. Considering that at the time he had only 2 years remaining on his contract at the time, he could have just as easy have forced a move away from Celtic but he fought, won and then signed a new 5 year contract.

Then I look at Deeks, no drive out of him. He must not be impressing at training, thats why GS doesnt want to start him.

Well since I've read quotes from his agent and subsequently no denial about these quotes, then I deem them to be true. I didnt read the reporters spin if thats what your getting at.

If anyone has gone off in a tangent here mate it is you. Comparing Riordan, a young player who has hardly had a run at his new club to Solkjaer, a player who has had a long career at his club and who has had fair crack of the whip establishing himself and collecting some trophies along the way. The two players situations are chalk and cheese. One players career at a major club is just starting and the others is just ending and you think the two compare? You went of on a tangent when you made the comparison, i am only pointing that out to you.

No I havent, Go back to the original post I made about this, I said take a leaf out of solkjaers book, i.e. to train hard and wait patiently for your time and impress the manager. Your on the tangent, I'm not comparing their careers!

Why you underline 'take a leaf' i don't know, no one is arguing that you didn't say that. In using Solkjaer as your comparison then you automatically have to take the two players careers into consideration and the fact is the two were at entirely different stages of their respective careers. Riordan is a young player trying to forge a career, Solkjaer is a player just ending his, unless you are privy to information on how Solkjaer behaved behind the scenes when he first arrived at Man United and what his reaction was after getting played for 20 minutes here and there by Fegy i don't see how you can make a comparison anyway. Your point is based on how you THINK Solkjaer accepted being on the bench early in his career i.e. before he had become a regular first team player.

I'm not comparing their careers at this moment in time, what drugs are you on?

He didnt moan to the papers or have his agent go looking for another club to bid for him, that I do know. He got on with it and won his place, thats where Riordan has failed.

What drugs am i on? Certainly not as potent as the ones you are on that's for sure Dempsey.

That's a quote from YOUR earlier post Dempsey, in making that remark YOU made the comparison. You say you were not comparing their careers at this moment in time.....What period were you comparing their careers then?

You also stated earlier that Deeks was hunting for a transfer and was showing a bad attitude. He has recently stated in the press that he had knocked back two clubs to stay and fight for his place at Celtic. How is that showing a bad attitude?

I wonder who I quoted there. That doesnt change the fact that his agent was encouraging clubs for bids on his behalf. Oh but now that the chance has past, the window has closed, he's now willing to fight for his place, smell what you're trying to shovel mate.

Can you tell me in what paper you read where his agent was " encouraging clubs for bids on his behalf "? Or is this just what you think to be the case?

If you are privy to information as to what transpires between the players their agents and the club on the transfer front then i bow to your superior knowledge on the matter. If as i suspect, you gain your insight from the back pages of the press and radio like the rest of us then please tell me where you read that statement.

As for my attempting to shovel anything, It's quite the opposite mate, YOU appear to be a * salesman with a mouth full of samples.

It looks like you have taken over my role of challenging Dempsey's inside knowledge. :50:

Keep with it, he'll trip himself up in the end. But don't expect him to admit he is ever wrong.

There is no challenge Martin, just as in Dempsey's case their is NO inside knowledge.

He said Riordan should have taken a leaf out of solkjaer's book regarding his attitude to not getting a game. I am merely trying to point out that Dempsey has no idea what either players attitude is or was to not being played by their respective managers. Therefor to make the statement that Riordan should take a leaf out of Solkjaer's book was silly baring in mind Dempsey has no clue as to how Solkjaer reacted behind the scenes to being placed on the bench, just as he has no clue as to how Derek Riordan has reacted either behind the scenes. We can all make assumptions, nothing wrong with that, just as long as we clarify that that is all we are making and that we are not stating our own thoughts on a matter as fact.

I can see Dempsey has a problem with admitting he is wrong Martin. I myself do not have a similar frailty. Unless Dempsey can tell me he has reliable information from inside Celtic Park to the contrary i will continue to believe that Derek Riordan is reacting to not being in the side the same as any other young player would react. He is trying hard to impress in training in order to get a run in the team.

I will happily admit that i am wrong if Dempsey can tell me he has more than just a hunch to prove this isn't the case.
