We desperately need him back, we should have gotten rid of him until we had a replacement of his quality, has proven himself in Europe and can lead the line and be as good a target man as Sammy. What we did was just got rid of him and thought it'd be grand.

Sammy holds the ball up, is a big unit, runs with the ball and is a big game performer.... there's NO other attacker that we have that performs in Europe like he does, absolutely NO ONE. I couldn't give two * if he plays poorly against Abereen, St Mirren or St Johnstone, or in the Cups...... I just care about one thing, the fact that he regularly scores and performs in champions league games. That's what we need, we need someone to hold the ball up and relieve pressure for us in Europe, we're not going to dominate possession against Barcelona, Bayern or Real.... we need an out ball. If people honestly think any of our current options, or potential buys we could make will have the same impact as Sammy in Europe, then they're in cloud cuckoo land.

Enough with the "he's lazy" bullshit, or the "he only performs once in about 10 games" *, as long as that "once" is in an important European fixture then that's all I care about. Progression in Europe is absolutely everything to us. For the love of * give him another year or two!

Oisin, I agree with a lot of what you're saying, but the reality is that, in some European games, his terrible ball retention skills were (part of) our undoing. He's an excellent counter-attacking player, but Deila's style seems to be more about keeping the ball.

Delias tactics so far are neither counter attacking or ball retention. It's all been constant attacking with forward passing.

...which involves some degree of keeping the ball (or at least more than Sammy was used to under Lenny's tactics in Europe). I'm not talking tiki-taka.

We are looking at resigning him

    http://m.scotsman.com/sport/football/spfl/celtic-ronny-deila-content-with-frugal-approach-1-3504679

When it comes to snapping up a player who would make an immediate impact, it is a quirk of fate that the currently clubless – yet still in his peak – Georgios Samaras would be on that list, were it not for the fact he has just left Celtic. In the past two years, no player was more influential in helping the club avoid results like Legia. His demand for a £25,000-a-week salary to match that of captain Scott Brown led to the Greek being freed after seven seasons, however, and that Argo has surely sailed.

Celtic, though, do need the sort of athletic, experienced player that the 29-year-old is. And they perhaps need to live with a £25,000-a-week wage demand to get him.

“Of course [the immediate impact player] is something that we are looking for,” Deila said. “I would do it in one second if that was possible. But we have to be reasonable, and that takes time. The [signing target’s] first thought is ‘do I have an opportunity here in my club?’ When they see the answer, they start thinking about other possibilities. That is when we come into the game. If not, we have to find the talented player that you talk about.

“There are two ways to create a team. You can buy it, or you can develop it, and here we do most of the latter. But we are also looking for those type of players as well. Of course Samaras is a player we know well, we are aware of him. I think he has good qualities but it has to be right for everybody so we will see.”

Who would've thought two months ago that Sammy could be our biggest signing this season. Mental.

That's what the chat was at the time he wouldn't sign a new deal.

I think we all bullshitted it at the time.

He has proved in the past he is a big time player and score some very important goals in the champions league and in the qualifying rounds, he should have been tied up long before he was allowed to leave. Would not mind if we have him signed up.

He has also proved in the past he can be complete useless and an empty shirt.

Some people seem to * themselves silly at the thought of Samaras running past 5 players refusing to look up before getting dispossessed or running the ball out of play.

Samaras was an empty shirt more often than not, you simply cannot justify 25k pw on such inconsistenty.

    My thoughts exactly.

I'd like to have him back, but wanting that kind of dough is probably the reason why he's been a free agent for three months now.

Would be a backwards step in more than one way. Even half those wages could be put to FAR better use. Great guy, but the fact he would be a free transfer yet no club with a far higher wage bill has snapped him up speaks volumes.

Stinks of desperation. Would never fit a hardworking team that Deila want.

I never liked him, always moaned about how he done * all and ran into trouble at every opportunity, then he had his moments and I'd still back it up by saying it's all well and good but we need him to perform the majority of times. He done nothing of note in the champions league last year IMO, having said that.......I believe if he came back, he'd have some kind of point to prove, he'll maybe realise he has to step it up and maybe he'll be galvanised by the fact he would be brought back as some kind of saviour and dare I say it, a marquee signing. Having said that....he'd no doubt come back, start strong and then frustrate us all!
