Might be good for away games in Europe as a lone striker

Whether he's starting up front alone, which he's very good at, despite what some people would have you believe or if he's coming off the bench for us - he's a good option to have in the squad.

Loves the club, loves the fans and is very experienced, which are all bonuses.

    I'm not picky.
I would like him to stay BUT only if he was more consistent. FAR too many times has he been really good in one match just to not turn up in the next couple. He IS a tryer but being a tryer and not scoring goals won't get you anywhere if you're a striker. I know all players have off moments, but he has more off games than he does good.

For me, far too many times he'll try to be fancy with the ball and run a lot with it but just ends up getting the ball taken off him when he should just keep a simple passing game. Maybe it's just a matter of him getting his head down, train hard and try to get confidence BUT he has been with us for, what, 3 years now, and if he's not really doing it by now then he never will.

I think tying him down with a contract was pretty smart cos at least this way when he does go, we'll get money for him (instead of him leaving on a free transfer) because there's no way I can see him staying with us for the next 3/4 years unless he greatly improves and becomes a lot more consistent.

Time will tell but in my opinion he he hasn't improved by next January, I'd sell him for anyone who bids for him.

Agree with this. I think Stokes and Hooper should start the remaining games and use Samaras as a back-up. They won't both last the 90 mins, agreed, which is when we should sub the one who isn't playing well for that match for Sammy. Samaras has had FAR too many starts and not really done anything so starting with Stokes alongside Hooper, to me, is better and was needed.

Again, agreed. Murphy aint done nothing since coming in and I think if Keatings continues to bang the goals in for the Youth team then I'd try him ahead of Murphy and he could be one to definately keep an eye on. Maybe he'll be the Scottish version of Larsson for us :icon_mrgreen:

Giving Samaras a contract so that we can get a transfer fee seems like a good idea in practice but it's dependant on one very important factor..................

SOMEBODY HAS TO BE STUPID ENOUGH TO BUY HIM!

Samaras is a joke of a player. He's a clown, a circus act. The sooner he plays his last game for Celtic the happier I'll be.

i see Sammy, OK at times, he has the potential to do well if he gives him self a good shake, think the team haven't realized how to play Sammy in. for me Sammys play is his ability to run with the ball quick, a ball over the top and defenders are beat,
teams that play the offside will get punished, but for me the key to Sammy's play is also about fast attacking football, not giving the home or away team a minutes peace no pass back, straight up and at em stuff, play to those strategies and, we will win most of our games with Sammy in the side. Play a slow build up and you can forget the use of Sammy, a fast game and Sammy ain't no different from big bad
john, he will win the ball for you, holds it up, he just need to spray it about to fast strikers to run on to game ended. if only the team took it in, the way millar of rangers won games, ball over the top, a lay of ball from millar and your picking the ball out the net, play this way and you can get 10 chances in a game any day of the week and you have beat the defensive players, at there own game

I'm one of the few who actually believe Sammy still has a future at Celtic, he is required for a number of reasons.

    • Strength in squad - Say Hooper gets another bad injury, are people really wanting us to play Murphy? We need someone who will score goals in the spl and who has experience at this level and Sammy does tick them boxes.
    • Offers something different - Good to bring off the bench, very different striker to Stokes and Hooper, he isn't a poacher at all, he likes to drift out wide and use his quick turn of pace to get in behind defenders and cause problems.
    • Lone striker - Very useful for Europe when we can't go 4-4-2 as we would get destroyed, holds the ball up well and is more than capable on his day of causing defenders all sorts of problems, also as we know already he is great to play as the lone striker against Rangers.
Sammy is a good option to have on the bench and a good option for our squad, he loves the club and the fans which is always good to know.

Yes his goal scoring record this year has been very poor but we don't need him just to score goals, we have Stokesy and Hooper for that, we want someone different who can bring others into play and can be a nightmare to play against.

If he could put in consistent displays like the one he put in at Rangers away he would be playing for a top club in europe, he has all the ability in the world.

    far too harsh on him..

people are quick to forget the good games he has, which fair enough, isn't as much as poor games.

    but

he clearly has the potential to rip the spl defences apart, if lennon gets him doing this regularly...which clearly looks like his plan, considering he's got him signed up, then he's a brilliant back up... who knows, maybe even a starter.

he destroys the huns everytime he plays them.... people are very harsh on big sammy... he has the club at heart, that's clear.

watch this for a bold statement

on his day, sammy is the best player in the spl.:celt_2: he's unplayable....showed that at ipox this season.

great option to have in the squad.

i agree, a great player to have in the squad, could win a match single handedly, on his day the best in spl etc, but im just fed up of seeing these things once in a blue moon, if you know what i mean :50:

He's not even close. That performance at Ibrox wasn't even as 'unplayable' as everyone keeps saying. Yes, he won a few headers. Yes, he capitalized on a McGregor howler. Yes, he did well to win a penalty. And yes he did well to score it. But are you seriously saying that because of this one good game he's the best player in the SPL 'on his day.' Better than Izagiurre, who puts in performances as impressive as that every week? Better than Kayal, who's the same. *, if you ask me Hooper's performance against Rangers in the 3-0 match was better than Sammy's in the 2-0.

Samaras will never be unplayable unless you mean that Lenny would be daft to ever actually play him.

ive never liked him, does soo many stupid things and i get so frustrated watching him on the ball looking for someone to pass to when there is like 3 players standing around him shouting for the ball, ill give him his dues when he plays against the huns, most times he is good and i love him for it but at the level we all want celtic to play at eg: Champions league/ Europa league etc, we cant afford to have a player who plays in such an important position to make so many stupid mistakes, ones which can ultimately cost us games.

I doubt Sammy will be here for the duration of his contract, were sitting 2 points clear at the top and have a realistic chance of winning the double, for me now's not the time to get the big stick out and start beating individuals, however little his contribution has been he has made one nonetheless, i've never been convinced that he is the answer but i believe he can still have a major part to play between now and the end of the season :shamrock:

another guy who can't see the good in a player.

yes ido believe and stick by the statement i made that samaras on his day is unplayable and the best player in he spl, ahead of izaguirre, hooper and kayal on their day (which is far more regular than samaras) which makes them better players. Like i said the problem with samaras is that he doesn't do it in nearly enough games, which hopefully will be sorted next season.

"Yes, he won a few headers. Yes, he capitalized on a McGregor howler. Yes, he did well to win a penalty. And yes he did well to score it"

what more do you want him to * do? lets remember this was at ibrox, the hardest place we can go.
