And what did WGS and Mowbray do to merit the job?

to be fair to keane did he not recently say he shouldnt be considered for the celtic job with his record?

he is a lot more experianced than lennon and is a bigger name as well so could attract better players.

I reckon Roy Keane would be perfect for the Celtic job.

He would inject passion back into the club and give the whole club and our fans a lift again. :celt_2::celt_2:

Sure. I don't expect you to agree with me though. :icon_mrgreen:

    Gordon Strachan

Strachan had managed in England's top flight for years. He had also guided Southampton to an 11th place finish the season before he resigned. That's not bad when you're at a club like Southampton. He also took Southampton to their first Cup Final in over 2 decades. So although he hadn't done brilliantly he had done reasonably well managing in England's top flight. That allied to his nationality and his strong character made him seem like a decent choice to be a Celtic manager.

    Tony Mowbray

Tony Mowbray had experience of managing in Scottish Football, he had experience of working on small transfer budgets, he had experience of taking young players and developing them, he had proven he could win a good standard of league as a manager by winning the CCC with WBA and he had a track record of building football teams who scored lots of goals and played attractive football. All of these are qualities that would be desirable in a modern day Celtic manager.

If that is enough for someone to get the Celtic job, then Keane isn't too bad an option.

    Roy Keane

Undoubted experience in football as a player. 19 major honours, including 7 EPL , 1 UCL and 1 SPL. Once tipped to take the Manchester United job, started at Sunderland, taking them from bottom of the league to the top, winning himself "Manager of the Year". Kept Sunderland in top flight in first year after many tipped them to go back down. That allied to his nationality and his strong character could make him seem like a decent choice to be a Celtic manager.

Not saying I want Keane as manager, just don't think he should be written off so easily.

I don't think any of the highlighted part is relevant tbh.

The rest of it is fair comment though. I was saying to Orthodox Celt the other day that Roy Keane does tick certain boxes and he does.

But to my mind he blew a fortune at Sunderland, lost the dressing room and had them heading towards relegation. Now he's gone to Ipswich and he's only won 10 matches out of 40(i think?) so that is most definitely not the kind of track record we want to be looking at. If Keane sticks it out at Ipswich and shows that he is able to turn the situation around then I would consider him in the future for the Celtic job.

Given that his last two seasons in football management have been abject failures I'd be wary of giving him the job this time round.

The part in bold was to highlight that he was a 'winner'. Also should have mentioned that he won alot as captain, highlighting his leadership qualities.

I'm almost certain that if Keane hadn't just recently been installed as Ipswich manager when we were looking for a new boss, than it would have been Keane instead of Mowbray.Granted his time at Ipswich has not been successful, but as I've said, he is not my 1st choice, but I'm not willing to write off his managerial capabilities just yet.

He certainly had leadership qualities as a player but his outspoken nature can lead to confrontation. I could quite easily foresee a situation whereby if things weren't going well for him at Celtic he would either lose the dressing room or get so * off with the media he would just jack it in. I have reservations about his staying power when things get tough, and they can get very tough in Glasgow.

I think you could well be right about the bolded part my friend.

Every manager has good and bad points and as for keane well he was said to have jumped from sunderland when the going got tough if you believe the papers and now hes at a struggling team who were struggling before he took over and have no money . He is a big name and im sure could attract decent players and is a strict disciplinarian and he wanted to take lenny as a player coach to sunderland so i wonder if thats the boards thinking but we will see

I don't necessarily see that as a bad thing. He gives the players a kick up the * from time to time. He tells the media to * off from time to time. I'm fine with that.

The problem is if he loses the dressing room, but I think he has learned from his mistakes at Sunderland. I haven't heard of any unhappy players at Ipswich, and they are a worst situation that what Sunderland were.

Bottom line is, not my first choice, but would not the disaster everyone seems he would be.

I think its to early for keane a couple of years maybe,Mark Hughes would be good, but to be honest I would go for Lennon somebody who the team would play for,I was at the game on saturday and when keane scored first goal they all ran to Lennon the team spirt was good

I voted no but put it this way, I would have him as Celtic manager before Lennon in a drop of a hat. That is no slight on Lennon either but managing Celtic is an apprenticeship for absolutely no one no matter who they are. That has been proven time and again.
