Paid more than he would anywhere else, because he’s a very convenient check box.

As a keeper though he’s a real downgrade from Bain but two options infront of him are the highest combined quality we’ve ever had. That youth keeper we had, starts with O there’s been plenty talk for years that we rate him highly.

if he doesn’t go back on loan and we need the 3rd choice I hope we give him a chance instead of Doohan, cos he is * shocking

Oluwayemi? Not sure how highly rated he is but I'm pretty sure Josh Clarke is highly rated, but he will probably be off

That’s the one but rings a bell that we had another rated higher and don’t think Oluwayemi has showed any progress, now you say that, but I don’t know where I heard that from:56:

I really don’t keep up with the young guys these days, I’ve no faith even if really good that we’ll see them. I’m willing to bet we won’t let McCardle out on loan just incase an emergency, but we won’t see him play either. A rare token bench appearance at most.

I hope I’m wrong there, because he did impress me. A lot

Can’t really say I’ve watched Doohan. Even if he’s played against us. I remember the odd stand out performance keepers have but in general, I’m not taking it in.

I don’t rate Bain at all though. Had some brilliant performances early on but sitting on the bench or in the stands didn’t do him any good.

Doohan was fine when he had to come on at Celtic park when Aberdeens first choice got injured. Think he did reasonably well the games after that until their first choice came back. Thought he was fine for Scotland too.

Bains preseason form last year was awful. Was like a Jack Butland * ups montage.

Looked him up. Played 30 games last season at Dunfermline. Guess that's decent enough.

Reminds me, what happened to Ben Summers! Think he was there too.

Aye, looked that up too :56:. Played 19 times. Not sure that's enough but hopefully get to see a bit of him in preseason.

    Unfortunetly too true.

Either we need to play guys like McCardle as much as we give time to guys like Yang, or we need to let these lads go out on loan.

Doohan here is a decent example, we let him go, but after a bit of first team minutes elsewhere we deem him worth signing again - I get it is 3rd choice, but between him and the club they must be looking at backup next season once Kasper leaves and everyone goes up a level.
Surely, guys like Doohan, Tobi, Clark, should already be third choice going on backup 2 or 3 years ago to get that game time exposure. Albeit keeper is harder to afford time to, but principle is there, these lads need in and around first team minutes. Not just sitting in the stands then going back to play against plumbers and electricians

Doohan signing again is down to boxes he ticks, homegrown, Scottish and I don’t think that can apply with players under 21 at the club. It’s not down to ability. He won’t be expecting an appearance I at all I imagine.

Goalkeeper Ross Doohan says coming back to Celtic was 'always the dream' scenario, having already strived to make an impact at the club in the early stages of his career.

Doohan was on the Celtic books as a schoolboy, developing through the club's academy sides before leaving in a permanent switch to Tranmere Rovers back in 2022.

In the time since he's played for Forest Green Rovers and Aberdeen. Now 27, he returns to Celtic as a more mature and well-rounded goalkeeper, playing a squad role alongside Kasper Schmeicheland Viljami Sinisalo.

He didn't hesitate to answer the call when word of interest from the champions came through.

Speaking at Celtic Park today, Doohan said, "The phone call with my agent lasted two minutes I'd say, just general chat for a minute. Then he just asked the question, would I be interested in coming back?

"I think I answered yeah before he even finished the question. So that's how it really came about and as soon as I heard that I was just eager to get it done as soon as possible.

"I feel like I grew up here basically. I had been here since I was 12, 13 up until I left a few years ago. I grew up here, moved school for the club, and went full time at the club. I've really spent most of my life at the club, so I've got a major attachment here.

"Coming back was always the dream, to come back here and play and be part of the club again. I knew at the time that when I left, it was probably the right thing to do to go out and get some game time, get more experience and even mature as an individual

I feel I've matured a lot, both on and off the pitch. I've got a lot more experience, and I feel my all-around game has gotten better, so I'm just looking forward to getting in and working and showing everyone that."

An accusation that will be thrown at Doohan is that he has given up the chance of playing more regular football elsewhere to be a third-choice player with little prospect of featuring much in Brendan Rodgers' first team.

Schmeichel is expected to continue as Celtic's number-one choice, while Rodgers has made no secret of the fact that he is hoping Sinisalo emerges as his successor when the great Dane retires.

However, the returning shot-stopper is backing himself to make a push into the thinking of his coaches and manager.

Doohan said, "It's going to be difficult. There are two top goalkeepers at the club already, and I'm buzzing to be working with them, buzzing to be working with Woodsy again because I know he's a top goalkeeper coach.

"The whole goalkeeping department's great, so I'm just looking to go in there, work as hard as I can, put my face out there, and I'm hoping to push myself into the team. I know it'll be hard, but I'm just going to work as hard as I can to get in there.

"I back myself so I know I've got the foot in the door now so I just need to go to training and work as hard as I can and show everyone what I can do, because they've not seen me in training for a few years since I've left.

"I need to go and show them what I'm like now and really push myself and try and knock on the door to get in the team."

Doohan's confidence has been further boosted recently by involvement in the Scotland set-up, winning his first cap for his country in a 4-0 rout of Liechtenstein.

On that, the new Celtic signing added, "It's probably not sunk in for real yet because it was such a quick turnaround. I was on holiday with my family when I got the call and then it was just the quick flight over that next morning.

"I didn't have too much time to think about it, but it was an absolute buzz when you get the call and it was a great honour to get my first cap.

"Walking out of the tunnel and singing the national anthem was a great honour. Just to get that cap, that's something that will live with me forever. It's made me want more and hopefully it's not the last."

On the prospect of his Celtic move helping those ambitions, Doohan concluded, "Now it's time to focus on Celtic and get my foot in the door and work as hard as I can and hopefully push myself to get some game time here and then the Scotland thing will come next. We'll see what happens."
