Ross Doohan looks set to answer Scotland’s goalkeeping SOS ahead of Monday’s friendly with Liechtenstein.

The Aberdeen shotstopper - who has penned a pre-contract with first club Celtic - is in line to win a first cap in Vaduz.

Steve Clarke was forced into a frantic search for cover after Angus Gunn limped out of Friday’s defeat to Iceland after just two minutes.

Untried Ciaran Slicker was thrown into action but, with just nine minutes of football under his belt in the last 22 months, froze on the big occasion and was at fault for all three goals in the 3-1 defeat.

To add to Clarke’s woes back-up Robby McCroriewas injured in the warm-up meaning the Kilmarnock keeper and Gunn join a lengthy goalkeeping casualty list that had already seen Craig Gordon, Liam Kelly and Zander Clark ruled out.

Now Doohan looks set to join up with the squad ahead of flying out to Liechtenstein on Sunday.

The 27-year-old made 18 appearances for the Dons last season and was capped right through the youth ranks up to U-21 level where he made 13 appearances.

He played more games last season than Slicker, Kelly and Clarke. I don't think it's unfair he gets a call up really.

Nice end to the season for Doohan. He signs back with us and gets an international call up and likely will make his full Scotland debut.

It’s crazy the national team are playing meaningless games at this time of the year, they should be having downtime with their families, many will start pre season training in 3 weeks or less.

It doesn’t mean you must play meaningless friendlies, give the players time off so they are rested and focused for the upcoming season.

To make matters worse, the Club World Cup starts on June 14 and ends on July 13. Players don't have enough time to rest anymore. For instance, Mbappe and Tchouameni just played in the Germany - France game for the Nations League. They now have to travel to the USA for the Club World Cup. This is ridiculous. Players face increased injury risk. Chances are they won't be able to play at a high tempo either. Curious to see whether the Club World Cup teams will be affacted next season. I'm glad Celtic isn't participating tbh.

Ronaldo apparently offered a contract by teams to get him to play in it but he didn't want to. Can see why, and I can imagine there will be players there who don't want to be.

I understand players are payed a * tonne but they are human too.

F@ck FIFA and their money. Don't expect anything from the teams either. All corporations prioritize profit above anything else. That's what they do. Hope the players take matters on their own hands and go on strike! All human beings need rest otherwise they won't be able to perform at their usual level anymore.

Guy must have been buzzing when Celtic signed him, then world came crashing around him when Steve Clarke called.

It's a joke Clarke saw fit to call up a guy with nine minutes of club football to his name ahead of him to begin with.

Probably does have a chance to end up Scotlands number 1.

Gunn is mediocre and been quite * for Scotland where he could easily be dropped and not even sure who he plays for club wise and then McCrorie and Kelly are pish and been about for years in the squad with neither fancied.

Has he actually signed? as he could fancy playing for someone and getting a game for Scotland?

Celtic Football Club is delighted to announce that goalkeeper, Ross Doohan, has signed for the club on a three-year deal.

Doohan, who came through the ranks of Celtic’s Academy as a young keeper, makes his return to the East End of Glasgow after spending the last two years with Aberdeen.

The goalkeeper, who has also had spells with Ayr United, Ross County, Dundee United, Tranmere Rovers and Forest Green Rovers, has represented Scotland at various age levels and recently made his first team debut in a 4-0 away win over Liechtenstein earlier this month.

Speaking about his return to Paradise, Doohan said: “I’m over the moon. Coming through the Academy, spending 11 years there and now to be coming back, it’s an amazing feeling.

“It was always the dream to come back. I knew at the starting point of my career that I needed to go away and play games and hopefully the opportunity would come up to come back to the club, which I always wanted to do and thankfully that’s happened now.

“I’m buzzing to get going and to meet all the boys and hopefully it’ll be another successful season for the club."

Brendan Rodgers has also spoken about his delight at bringing the goalkeeper in to the Celts’ first team squad, adding: “I am really pleased that we are bringing Ross back to Celtic. He knows the club so well and has grown up understanding the demands of the club.

“He has gone away, got some great experience, really focused on developing himself at some good clubs, so much so that he has now achieved his first Scotland cap, a great moment for him and his family.

“Ross is a really talented goalkeeper, hungry to achieve more, but he is a humble guy with a tremendous attitude to the game. I am sure he can be a real asset to our squad”.

Gonna get a good wee pay pack here for little football. But good to have a player who knows what the club is about and tbh he's no the worst keeper. Improvement on bain for sure
