I wish to fk all you numpties out there would stop putting words in my mouth I never said anything about changing manager, just for us to get in some decent defenders, who know how to, ambrose is a nightmare along with Izzy, Willson, Rogne, and could go on, but hey if yourare pleased how they have played then nuff said just :31:

The defence hasn't been quite right for years to be fair. I think it's an area that needs addressing but is often over looked.

You said we need a manager to COME IN and sort out our defence as its been * (paraphrasing) for 6 or 7 years. I put up stats and facts about our defence under Lenny which showed you were talking pish. Yet I;m a numpty:smiley-laughing002:

I would agree, always seem to have one good defender but can never really get a partner that doesn't get injured or one that suits the other.

Partnerships generally have one dominant cb who sweeps up everthing on the ground and in the air, then beside you have a more cultured ball playing centre back with a bit of pace.

    Ferdinand/Vidic being a prime example.

We have a multitude of variations that we can play.

    Wilson/Mulgrew
    Ambrose/Wilson
    Rogne/Wilson
    Rogne/Mulgrew
    Rogne/Ambrose

The closest dominant centre back is Rogne and personally i am not convinced by him. Gershon could be the dominant no nonsense cb but i just haven't seen enough of him to comment.

For me personally the only two centre backs i am happy with are Wilson and Mulgrew but i don't feel they complement one another well.

You are spot on, it has been needing looked at for years I don't know how long under plenty of Diff managers, build from the back, and everything will fall into place, but on here you can't say anything or there are loads of them lunging down your throat calling you huns ect why the fk would I be here if I were a hun, I go to games home and away and pay plenty of money so am entitled to my opinion without being abused

Given that our defence has been the best in the country for a few years, what kind of standards are you looking for? Taking into account our budget etc?

Or do you think that maybe we need to adjust the way we play to be more protective of our back line maybe?

    Agreed.

It's a problem area for sure.

Just when you think we have it sorted (Mulgrew and Rogne last season, Ambrose and Wilson early on this season) it all goes to *.

Injuries really don't help with continuity though.

What I wouldn't give for four CB's who know each others games inside out and could interchange when required, whether through injury or loss of form.

The huns had a good defence when they had that * Bougherra and Weir at the back tbh, which was on par with ours.. and now they're gone, so it's not exactly hard to have the best defence in the country. The defence has fallen apart in a lot of games this season, look at the game against Motherwell, and Ross County was just the latest. Wilson is a very good CB but we need someone to partner him

The point is (even though your post implies you are not happy with the manager and want another to come in and sort the defence) Lenny has sorted the defence. Most of the facts point to this. Our performaces in the CL this season prove this. As do the EL performances last season.

I find it strange that some seem to focus on the odd occasion that we * up. There will be a few times we do but overall we dont lose many goals.

Ours was better when the huns were at their strongest for the season Lenny was in charge.

I accept that we do make mistakes there but it is better than given credit for imo. In Lustig, Wilson and Forster we have a good starting point. Izzy is better going forward (as we are finding out more and more) and we dont really have a regular as such to partner Wilson. However with all the injuries we get the defence is always going to be noticed more.
