A crap world cup does not make him a bad player. But even before the world cup, I said Messsi and Ronalso is a mile ahead of Rooney (or anyone else in world football).

Simply put, it shud of been a Ronaldo vs Messi thread, cos Rooney is nowhere near these two players. By far the 2 best players in the world.

Following by a group of world class players, but not in the same bracket as the other two. In this group there are plays like Rooney, Luis Fabiano, David Villa, Kaka, Drogba, etc

anyone that says rooney is the best striker in the world is part of the english media. to begin to say that rooney is on the same level as ronaldo or messi is just idiotic, rooney needs good players around him to create chances for him. ronaldo and messi just need the ball to score.

    their all different players

Rooney first and foremost is a striker
Ronaldo ( for me ) is a flair winger
Messi ( for me ) is a direct winger

out of the 3, messi is my favorite, but like i said, their all different players, its like asking: larsson, mcgeady, or moravcik?

see this thread was made when rooney was on fire thats why hes in it, but overall id say

    1st Messi
    Ronaldo

    2nd class
    Villa
    rooney / torres
    drogba
    kaka ( being generous )

    3rd class
    Tevez
    higuain
    Forlan
    fabiano
    militio

ive complicated things i guess but there all world class like just different levels.

i think messi is in a league of his own tbh.

ronaldo can be truely outstanding at times but i think ronaldo is more about power and pace than messi. ronaldo seems to go missing when things arent going well. when he gets kicked and bashed around by defenders he goes down looking for a foul, despite being more than able to hold the same defender off when things are going well. he also shows virtually no interest in battling to win the ball back.

whereas messi is totally different. when things arent going well for him he keeps trying to create something, keeps trying to get a shot away and sometimes scores from it. he gets kicked, gets back up then rips the defender a new * hole. he also seems to make everything look easy, as if defenders arent even there, he doesnt nut-meg the defenders like ronaldo tries, he simply taps the ball to one side and leaves the defender in his wake.

i think messi will always be better than ronaldo.

It is: but in fairness to me, I did say near the start of the thread that I felt he wasn't even in the same league.

If I'm honest, I don't really get the Rooney thing - I see a stocky, bustling centre-forward with quick feet and a powerful shot. Good in the air. But that's it. He probably does have qualities I'm not fully appreciating - but any Messi comparison seems like crazy talk to me...

I think Villa has been far better recently than Ronaldo and surely they should have their places swapped or Villa up a tier anyway. I'd also stick Robben and Ozil in the second tier along with Samaras of course.

im not really goin on current form though m8 otherwise rooney, torres and ronaldo wouldn't be there , im goin on overall abilty i guess.
Ronaldo when on song is superior than villa imo and the rest barr messi.
And i wouldn't call ozil world class yet , great world cup like but i havent seen enough of him to make a judgement , probably will be world class though when hes older.
Robbens 3rd tier i would say.

And mickcfc i agree villas the best striker in the world, just for his consistency alone , incredible strike rate .

    Messi for sure.

I agree David Villa is the best striker in the world currently.

Rooney was carrying an injury into the World Cup, his form was always going to suffer. The England 'team' was a mess on par with France except that they didnt air their dirty linen and loose all self respect.

Messi is a great player but he's not walking on water just yet. Also, he's done * all so far in this World Cup and at this stage I dont think there is anything he can do to emerge from Maradona's '86 shadow in this tournament.

Rooney is an injured player who had a bad tournament
Messi is a great player who has had a very quiet tournament so far.

To say that one is a league above the other smacks of spite, bias or some form of alternate agenda because you are kicking one player when he's down and propping up another despite complete mediocrity
