Purple Rain was a seminal album. My Auntie owned it and I used to put it on whenever I stayed over.

    RIP.

Absolutely loved him. Little red corvette, Purple rain, diamonds and pearls, cream and sign of the times. All great tunes. Even the songs he wrote For Chaka Khan And Siead O Connor. A funky Wee guy that done things his own way. Refused to bow down to the industry. Last album saw him back to his best. Gone far too soon. RIP.

he played a surprise gig at the garage in glasgow a few year ago. Came on stage at 2 in the morning or something. Billy Sloan spoke about it on his radio show.

This is tragic news. I was just looking on YouTube for a song from his first album to post when I seen people saying he was dead. I thought it was a daft wind up. The guy was so fit and only a couple years ago played 31 nights at the o2.

I was lucky enough to see him twice then and I only mention that to say he was undoubtedly the best live musician in the world. It was like Hendrix spirit passed onto him after he died because he was a phenomenal guitar player, experimental songwriter and expert at showmanship.

He was the greatest of not just his generation but one of the all time greats, there won't be one like him for a long long time. He was in the literal sense of the word a genius.

I can't believe it, I'm totally gutted, this guy was blessed with supernatural talent and now he's gone.

R.I.P Prince, I hope you're up there jamming with Jimi's Allstars

Saw him twice in London at the o2, and again in Dublin (Malahide) and the wife has been to too many concerts to mention. She was as big a fan of anyone that I've ever known. Her last concert was in his home where he died today, Paisley Park in Minneapolis, in January this year. It's probably the biggest shock of celebrity deaths I've ever witnessed, probably due to her reaction.

I was in the shower not long before I read it and had music playing the song Control from Big Sean and was tunes into the lyrics when I noticed Kendrick Lamar mentioned a red corvette and wondered if it was a reference to Prince's song Little Red Corvette then seen he died on here probably only 20/30 minutes later.

I feel for her, I mean I think he was something special but only went to a couple gigs. If she's went all the way to spend a weekend just purely because of Prince then she must appreciate him big time. He'll have a special place in her heart and mind. No wonder she'll be greatly affected.
