Does it not give you as a fan a way more satisfaction when your manager brings in undiscovered talent, brings through youth the club has developed, installs belief in players who have been good but have lost their way.For me this is what real managment and football is all about not spending 10's of millions on players because you can. There will be few clubs in the champions league who have spent as little as we have creating a decent team and even less who have as big a support worldwide as we have. Its the celtic way.

Spot on.
And what a perfect example this evening. Money Spartak spent cannot be matched by us. Yet check the score. -

Well said. Credit to Lenny and our scouts, especially John Park.

Hail * Hail! It's on nights like this that a guy like Charlie Mulgrew must take great satisfaction in proving everybody in the world, ever, (except Lenny!) wrong! Our signing policy over the last two years has been bang on! Long may it continue! -

All credit to Victor Wanyama for bringing in these young guys.

Absolutely. There's probably more money in Russia than in England, but we were good value for the win tonight. At one point the commentator (on Setanta) said something like 'if you want to bring in high quality you have to pay high prices'. Well we showed tonight exactly what good management on a tight budget can do.

Good point well made.

I wonder if opinions would have been the same had we not beaten Spartak. If they had come from behind and held onto their lead we'd more than likely be talking about how spending some money ensures a bit of quality.
Don't get me wrong, we were well worth the win, but that was one game. If we do qualify for the knock out stages then why shouldn't we spend money? What's the point of trying to progress in these tournaments if we're not going to look to improve our team?
The simple truth is, we shouldn't spend beyond our means, but we certainly shouldn't be buscuit-tinning our way through the next few years just because Rangers are gone. -

Spending 30 million on someone as good as Aguero is brilliant, but honestly for me not as good as spending 900k on a Wanyama. -
-
Has anyone been watching the man city game where they have been outclassed by the germans who probably have spent a tenth of what they've spent. The germans should have been out of sight but city escaped with a very lucky home draw.
-
The point still stands that we have to be prepared to spend some money. I have no doubt that if we get creamed by Barca, and maybe drop some points away to Benfica everyone will be kicking up * as usual.
We've done well with Wanyama at the price, but it's also worth bearing in mind that for every Wanyama we've seen a Bangura, Juarez and Murphy.
Nine times out of ten, if you spend nothing that is exactly what you get. Nothing. -
I still think we could have done with one or two experienced leaders in the squad.
Ambrose has been entertaining to watch but I think we could have done good with a Centre half with some experience playing in the top flights of europe. -
I'd say our hit rate is about seven out of ten - definitely nowhere near one out of four, as you seem to be suggesting.
Dylan McGeough.
Kelvin Wilson.
Mikael Lustig.
Lassad Nouioui.
Next please nurse. -
Matthews and McGeouch on that list definitely deserve a shout.
Wilson and Lustig have both had good runs. But we'll see about consistency. Lassad we haven't seen enough of yet I think! -
i would add ledley & izzy who were free/cheap :50: -

Man City's team tonight (including subs used) cost £234.8m. Ours cost around £13.8m....and yet they have 1 point and we have 4. :56:Owned rich *, owned.
